Agreed. I grew up skiing Wilmot, Alpine Valley, Ironhead, Crystal and Ski Brule in the U.P. They turn chairs when there’s 1-inch of clear ice over the grass. The fun is there, you just have to look for it and make the most of what you find… About the only difference I would apply if I still lived in IL would be to sharpen my edges on the regular. On Mt Hood, I haven’t sharpened edges in years……

Not mine and I already have 2 pair of this vintage, but looks like a decent deal on a (likely) mislabeled BG 191 from 2014. If you want the "old" BG feel/shape, this is the one you want. #IYKYK Some mag should own these, if only for a backup pair. Please don't make me buy another pair.

You could go Frankenski if you want narrower than DW 104. Bamboo core, triple camber, 98 underfoot. I’d be stoked to try them for sure.

Do you usually get along with center mounts? Could you mount it back 2 or 3?

I have not previously gotten along with center mounts. I warmed up to the bent chetler more once I got comfortable on the frankenski.

But it’s really a specialized tool for firm snow and park. I am almost never on it in a situation where I could bury the tip in soft snow. The few times I have found myself in that situation, it exceeded my expectations, but I never really go looking for soft snow when I’m on them.

So as long as I can’t bury the tip and go over the handlebars — yeah, center mounts are fun.

In deeper snow, I am happiest around -5 or -6. I used to swear that Billy goats/C&D were the best rides for deep snow and nothing else would do…but I found a very similar tip shape to a 191 goat with a more progressive mount (-5.5, instead of -9) and I was happier. This is the SGN Urrakkar.

I spent several years on praxis products mounting at -1 because I always felt like I had to ski backseat to get them to cooperate.

I am dead close to the actual center (to reuse holes) and I love them. The person before me had them at -1 and sold them to me after only a few days of use.

They’re soft, but they hold an edge well and you can ski them pretty hard. I have them detuned underfoot and on firm snow at speed, the triple camber earns its keep. I wouldn’t take them to beer league but they carve. Previously when I’ve detuned underfoot sufficiently for the park, I really couldn’t carve well

Just looking and wondering. I feel like I’d prefer Wildcats to any Woods, but I had some old 192 115 Wren comp things from 2015 that I loved and the Woods 116 seems similar in some ways

How do the older Woodmans 116s perform?

they are fun - a very good halfway point between BGs and Jeffs. They basically ski like what they seem to be - a wider am ski.

The tails on the first year's version are a bit stiffer, whereas Iggy made them a bit rounder for the second year.

Based on my time on the first year version -> they are fun on hard snow for what they are, have enough weight to mob variable and pivots relatively well like all ON3Ps. They do not lack for float. They are not as loose as say MF118s at higher edge angles due to less taper.

I would probb be very happy with them as my main 116ish ski if I hadn't swiss cheesed them making the on the line mount off limits. They would be even better with a tad more taper after the contact points. Titanal underfoot like blackops118 wouldn't be amiss either, though - they edge more than well enough as is too.

So - all in all - they probably deserved to sell way more of them than they did. It is a very good ski imho.

Now I’m debating snagging another Jeff 118 or waiting for the BG.

Skied it today. Floats like a got damn boat but the 194 is a lot of ski. I don’t think you’d have much of an issue since you’re on the 191 Jeff. I’m thinking the 186 for me at -1 as a more laid back powder tool. Iggy said that the new 118 was the least changed out of the lineup so I’m assuming it’s going to be quite similar to the one from last year that was dialed. I was thinking wildcat but something still has me Jeff curious.
