Rose and Brian were an item all through college and for several years after. Big Deadheads, followed the band all over the place, saw literally hundreds of shows, Brian once told me his number was over 400. A few years after school, Brian broke up with Rose. Rose killed herself. At the funeral they played this, there were no dry eyes that day.
Geez, that’s awfully sad.
I still call it The Jake.

I haven't heard that one before. Thanks for posting.
Glad to hear Lucinda's touring again after her stroke. I heard her a couple of years ago and thought her voice was better than ever. She also explained what each song was about--i.e. what guy--something she doesn't usually do.
Seeing Buddy Miller in that video reminded me of this
Listen to it on youtube and hang around for the next song too.
Listening to Buddy do that Otis Redding song reminded me of this. (To Love Somebody was supposedly written for Otis too, but he died.)

sorry if I posted this one before. With one kid all the way across the country and the other one half way across the world it hits home. I don't dare let my wife hear it, although some say sad songs make us feel better when we're sad.
Hey OG and any other Emmylou fans - this is a great CD that highly recommend:

Somehow I've missed this thread in the past, and haven't dug through all of it.. so sorry if a repost, but this is the one that always gets me. Lots of personal connections.
EDIT: Just scrolled through the thread and saw MTM posted a Wharf Rat cover in 2016. For me a lot of it is the pain I hear in Jerry's voice, so definitely love the original. Not so much evident in this show, but one of the only live ones I could find on the youtubes. There are much better examples.
Saw a couple posts about Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. That one always gets me too. Love it.
Another cover that hits the mark and always makes me feel the feelings:

Takes me back to a girl I knew in college. We listened to this one more than a few times. Taken from us many years ago. I cannot skip this song to this day and think back to those days, wondering where she'd be and what she'd be doing today...RIP Carrie.
Asked the wife out of the blue, what song would you pick of I asked you for something "beautifully sad"?
She's not a huge reggae fan, but does have a WIDE variety of music she enjoys.
Her immediate answer was this, although she argued that "that is literally every folk song ever" despite picking Toots.
