None of you without a third gen Tacoma know the struggle. Steering wheel controls for the radio are right/left for volume and up/down for track skip. Madness.

Hmmm, I do like the UI. Easy swap?

Lol @TS
I hate screens and I hate steering wheel buttons that all feel the sameWe need an old man screams at cloud emoji
I think you guys love to hate on stuff more than you actually hate it.
In either case, I have zero problems with the predominance of screens in my car. I can find the stuff I need to and the display that replaces the instrument cluster handles most of the stuff that needs eyes forward.
And I’m a little unclear what will be “outdated” on a touch screen that navigates menus and turns stuff on and off, even in 10 years. It’s how you do that thing on that car and it will always be how you do that thing until/unless there is a software update which is a pretty cool, albeit unnecessary, possibility. Because you’ll still be able to do that same thing even without the update. It’s not like the display or touch screen itself is prone to failure or breaking.
focus.
RE: Steering wheel controls.
In my car the volume controls are on the right, track controls are on the left.
In my wife's car the volume controls are on the left, track controls are on the right.
I frequently skip a track I'm grooving to in my wife's car, then I giggle, because it's the whitest of white people problems.
Another first world problem is wired Android Auto or Carplay. The thing doesn't have enough power to charge the phone while it has to be running so when you get to places your battery is damn near dead. I keep a wireless charger in our Kona so I can charge my phone and run it on the screen.
I just want steering wheel buttons to have different surfaces and shapes for different functions. In that aspect my stupid minivan is pretty good with the different recesses and bumps, there's also buttons on the face and the rear of the wheel so there's a lot of stuff readily accessible. I haven't had anything newer than 2019 yet so I haven't had a screen that's even dimmable and with as much night driving as I do (20k miles/yr) I've found screens to be more annoying than helpful. On my BRZ I had a cloth cut to fit over it because it bothered my eyes that much.
Yeah, not trucks. Sorry.
I’m surprised none of these EV startups are going “low-tech”. No screen. All glow and toggle switches. Single DIN radio. Mechanical speedo. LED bar for battery level. Etc…
Just have a clever integrated phone mount - done.

They make wireless to wired adapters for Car Play and Android Auto. I use an Android Auto one. It works flawlessly. Equivalent Car Play devices have a ton of positive reviews on Amazon. It'll free up your port for fast charging.

heh. Hyundai Kona
I'm hearing that those wireless adapters don't work with Pixels that updated to Android 14. I might get one and try it in the Kona, it'll be nice if it works. Good to hear that it works for you. Thanks.
Have a Pixel 6 Pro, running 14. Using this adapter.

Works flawlessly.

Thanks TS, I have a 6 too.
Ford aesthetics...Yikes.

RAM doesn't get a lot of love here, but Ive been stoked with my 2021 1500 Laramie. Ive put 60k miles on it as a daily driver/work truck. Coming from a 2010 tundra, I put 200k on. I did the 100% bonus depreciation through my scorp that tax year, don't think you can do this anymore
things I like about the RAM.
-5.7 Hemi is faster acceleration and gets better decent gas milage (16-19mpg)
-Ive got the folding front 6th seat/console. still has good cup holders and storage, but more legroom without the full center console. 6th seat has come in useful a couple times for bike shuttles
-I have the smaller touch screen, not the obnoxiously large one. still has some buttons and knobs for you boomers, and is aesthetically pleasing
-compared to the leaf springs of the Tundra, the 4 coils is such a smoother ride with a light load. I spend most of the time driving around with a bed and backseat full of bins of product, not particularly heavy stuff. I added rear coil air bags for when pulling drift boat and carrying moto.
- its been nice having some techy shit, leather heated/cooled, etc. my tundra was bare bones cloth. I do miss the bigger bed a couple times a year.
not sure it will be another 200k truck, but ill run it for at least a few more years before considering another upgrade
A big hurdle for me is my Go Fast Camper. I would not be able to move it to a new Tundra with the same bed length. I could sell my GFC for good money, but then be camperless for another 8+ months before a new one would be ready as their lead times are long. If the camper could be swapped over.......would be hard for me to not buy a new truck. Mine just isn't very comfortable anymore and I'm wondering really how many miles it has left.
We are going to look at a 2023 Q5 tonight. It will be the girlfriends car technically, but she barely drives (maybe 5k miles a year?.....I drive 30k+). So, I can have something that doesn't look like a total ski bum trout bro mobile when meeting with some high end clients.
Ah, they probably buy from you because you're not in a Q5. Hard to swing a dead cat in a mountain town without hitting a realtor in a Tahoe or Audi. Keep the total ski bum trout realtor vibe rolling. The high enders have all watched Yellowstone.

Land cruiser. I bought my 99 land cruiser in 2015 from an architect. Had over 200k miles. It was in cherry condition, which was particularly noted by the shop that did the pre purchase inspection. The seller regularly (daily) hauled high end clients.
Our realtor in 2014 drove a Lexus RX. She kept in cherry condition. She seemed to have no problems navigating it on rough backcountry roads. I think she leased her work cars and flipped them when the leases ended.
Used Cruisers/LXs here might as well be made out of solid gold. People pay ungodly prices for 30 year old vehicles. It's insanity.

She had a outdoorsy, backwoods, 4x4, backpacking, get dirty, chainsaw operating side to her personality.
