Don't use a cordless drill, they don't spin fast enough. Corded drill from HF is ~$20 and essentially disposable, pay the $5 for the extended warranty if you're worried about burning it out. Mine lasted 3 years before dying.

In my experience Kuu bio citron base cleaner works great. Removes all the gradoo (new word for me) and preps my bases for waxing, without issue. Slide Wright describes it as:

“Bar none the best citrus based cleaner you have ever used. This solvent cleans wax, dirt, klister, pine tar without drying out the base and the best part is that it dries fast with no haze.
Bio-Citron base cleaner works great as a topical base cleaner. Spray on a shop towel wrapped around a scraper to wipe down the base in one pass, flip and wipe off on the return pass. Let dry and wax”.

Most people I know use cordless. Corded may be better (dunno, I use cordless) but a good cordless works fine. Mine goes to 2,000 rpms.

Anyone tried using a drill chuck adapter for an angle grinder? Rotobrush wax off at 10,000 RPM!

Geez! Imagine the friction heat you could generate w/10,000 rpm and a roto cork! You could hot wax without an iron.[emoji23]

To me, the old school cleaners are the ones that are pure hydrocarbon solvents, like Toko HC3:

The new school ones are Swix Glide Wax Cleaner, and Toko Race Wax Remover, which have other ingredients and aren’t as aggressive:

Citrus solvents are likely straight limonene (Wintersteiger’s is) which is basically turpentine, but from oranges.

Yeah, I think I have a bottle of the Wintersteiger stuff. So what am I working with? It smells awful. I don't like using it much.

If it’s not the citrus one, it’s probably straight Naphtha:

My only problem is that the sprayer on the bottle I got sucks and leaks all over my hand.

    Otherwise Kuu pretty nice stuff.

Anyone have experience with an IR Waxer? https://mountainflow.com/products/ir-waxer-2-0 or the alibaba/amazon ones for half the price

I bought one this morning after seeing your post. Should I to assume it has a diamond wheel like the edging tool?

It's just so freaking easy. 2 swipes, 10 seconds tops. More time for drinking beer and/or burning bowls.

No stated wattage and no doubt off shore. Alotta cheddar with iffy recourse on repair-ability?

This was thrown up around here somewhere not too long ago:

I did the panzar file on the workbench for years too.
Honestly I think the electric is just better - faster, easier, more consistent, better edge on the plexi scraper.

With a couple, of serious racer kids in the house, we do a lot of tuning and waxing in a detached garage with only a small space heater to make it tolerable and one of the things I hate the most is scraping wax. A sharp scraper makes a huge difference.

Is it the first tool to buy - no not all. But is it a nice one to have - yep absolutely.

No, not a diamond wheel - more like horizontally mounted router bit.

People who know, will bring a handful of scrapers into the shop for me to grind on the belt. Quick and effective way to get a sharp edge. I just hold them on the round part of the belt for 10 seconds. No charge

I'm not sold on the electric sharpener. A $200 tool that's only useful for one fairly obscure task seems... unnecessary.

I've got a big belt sander for wood working stuff that sharpens scrapers in about half a second. Can be found on craigslist for about the same price as the electric scraper.
