Geez, that exploded. Sorry to piss some people off, but the point of what I posted is, why the fuck to people need yet another pill in our pop a pill culture to control something that seems made up to me. Sounds to me like there are more disorders, I'm sure coded with medical billing codes, to send to insurance to keep progressing the pharmaceutical culture we live in. Sure, this does not address the lack of mental health funding or recognition we have in the world, but another fucking pill to normalize a person just seems like nonsense to me. Kind of like pseudobulbar affect, WTF, yeah I laugh at some of the wrong times, but fuck it, it's my personality.
How about you go to med school before you start deciding what is a real disorder and what isnt?
Have some empathy? Just because you do not understand something does not make it untrue. Imagine what is like to be that person who cannot seem to get control over something that seems simple to someone else.
Kindness costs nothing.
The smug cloud is strong among some here.
Eating disorders of various sorts are very real. It is hard to unravel the chicken & the egg, but they can have an impact on brain chemistry - & the other way around. And the level of co-morbidity with alcoholism and other addictions is non-trivial.
I've seen enough of life to know that these are real problems that real humans struggle with. And sometimes die from.
Before being so dismissive, consider that someone you know and care about may well be in such a battle. In fact, this is surprisingly likely. And not always obvious.
Lighten up, FWIW, I have plenty of medical background, 20 years in medicine has taught me plenty. I am kind and show plenty of empathy to all my patients whether or not they have a "disorder" or not.
I understand plenty lady, and what I am stating is that we seem to try to easily fix "disorders" with more pills that usually have more side effects than the cure they are intended for.
I certainly can't imagine what it is like not to have self control, but really, throwing a bunch of pills down someones throat is going to fix that?
Give it a rest before you need more of your propanolol.
I'm with you mtngirl. It is definitely a proper disorder like any other eating disorder, addiction, depression, etc. I don't think it should be treated with pills though. Therapy to get to the underlying issue is the only way to really fix it. I joke about myself having it too, but it ruins people.

I am binge eating cheese it's rite now.
Want sum?

I will leave it up to the doctors and psychiatrists to decide, something I am certain you are not or you would have certainly said so.
As for your condescending attitude, shove it up your ass.
Your attitude hurts people. It causes people to hide their problems and to not seek treatment. It cause people to see themselves as fundamentally flawed and weak and unable to overcome.
I'm sorry for your patients, whatever you do. It would suck to have medical professionals who think disorders diagnosed by a Dr are a hoax.
This is a message board about skiing, for fuck's sake, not an eating disorder support group. Everyone knows what they're in for when they post here. "Lighten up, Francis" is apropos.
Exactly. It's the non skiing section of a message board about skiing.
So when a group of people are making fun of and trivializing real disorders people suffer from and painting them with a broad brush as people with no will power why it is so wrong to point out the harm their words cause?

Geez, people are too easily offended nowadays.
This is my opinion, they are like assholes, everyone has one.
BTW, I would never reveal if I was a physician or shrink anyways, which I am not, but I am a medical professional.
Now go drive your bus full of patients off a cliff, bitch.
