The good doctor and I skied White and tried to link it to Conness's north chutes, but there was an unfriendly cornice near the Conness plateau, so we skied the unforgiving gnar of Greenstone. The snow was pretty fun: 2-4" of new snow on top of crusty corn. It was a little scratchy but still consistent and sometimes quite smooth. The good news is that coverage above 10k is as good as I've seen it since 2011.

    Obligatory skinning photo.

Anyone know or have a guess on reopening this week on Tioga. Also curious on Sonora, wonder if that pops by Friday for memorial day weekend...

I've said this before, but there is no better book to thumb through while pooping.

By the way, if somebody has a copy of Moynier that they want to part with, let's talk.

The book is definitely badass to browse at for inspiration, but I was just thumbing through it the other day and was shocked at how off the vertical and steepness was on a lot of well known lines. I don't think those boys double checked their topos often enough.

And I think I have an old, dog eared Moynier book I could care less about buried in a box in the garage...somewhere.

Yeah the guidebook you wrote is a lot better.

I like the Moynier book. It has actual ski tours, not just a hit list of ski runs.

I have quite a few Sierra guidebooks. Climbing hiking skiing there is a lot of overlap and it's nice to have a bunch of resources. And I like books. I try to collect cool old skiing climbing hiking books. Nerd.

skied into rock creek on friday. lower tide than expected. was bummed to hump the entire road from the pack station to the summer trailhead even though there were only a few 4x4able patches of snow. hiked in shoes to around heart lake then transitioned to skis. was hoping to ski over cox col towards lake italy, but the weather looked iffy. as it were, it snow showered off and on friday and most of saturday, with intermittent bluebird stretches, but confidence to camp on the other side of a 13K' sierra crest crossing from our car was low. so we hunkered down at treasure lakes. skied hourglass on friday (firm, to quite firm) and down from cox col via the great bowl below the north prow of BCS on saturday (still firm, but hey, we're skiing in frickn May, amirite?). it snowed lightly all night on Saturday. Sunday broke in gorgeous fashion, but of course we had to get home. so we packed up and skied out on a perfect day. Had a few nice wiggly low angle turns back down to the snowline, and the long hump down the trail to the car. Its going quickly, so get it while you can!

PS: closed Monitor for no reason, requiring a nice detour around the peaks and through the ranchos to 88. Caltrans must move the plows south and just close the Monitor gates when it even slightly whiffs of snow.

PPS: huge kudos to the guys who skied in sunday morning over maybe two inches of new snow connecting the dots and ripping over dirt patches, collapsing snow bridges and with general disregard for their skins. way to want it!

Nice dude. At least you picked a good drainage for ridiculous scenery if you're skiing firm to quite firm conditions. :-)
