Great map. Not sure if I can blow one of my precious Mammoth tix on a Saturday though.
Would be great to see 6-10 feet of base at the end of March south of Bishop. really miss hitting stuff south of Independence
Oh that's looking Tasty. Keep em coming
Any reports of conditions between Bridgeport and June? I'm guessing there's decent coverage above 8500' but wondering how schwacky things are below. Tahoe crowds have me antsy to get away.
Nothing since the last storm, but I was in Parker Canyon (between June and Lee Vining) ice climbing a week ago today and it was still pretty poor up to about 10,000'. I suspect things have improved considerably since. Reports from June Mt itself and side country were very promising.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot
Probably better to get vertical rather than horizontal on your tours down there right now after seeing this photo of little slide: https://www.instagram.com/p/BOU3OL3j...erguides&hl=en
I'm thinking the same as you. Hit me up if you're thinking about Thursday cuz that's the day I might be shooting for.
Went to the Sawtooths with BGnight yesterday. The good news is that we were able to skin pretty much all the way from the car. The bad news is that you also have to skin the last 3 miles back to the car unless you're a psychopath with Kevlar ACLs. The snow was generally variable and wind-affected, although the snow in the couloir itself wasn't terrible.
Best news: The Eastside is on again!
^^^^^^ very nice!
Thanx for the bridgevegas report!
Horse creek peak? Super easy climb up right shoulder through horse creek pass should u not want to climb yer descent route next time. My fave picture ever of me and my dog buddy was of him launching that drop in on that same line
I usually climb the backside but we weren't even sure we were gonna ski it cuz there was so much shit snow about. So we decided to skin up to it and climb it to see if the snow was doable rather than hike up the back and realize it was death crust.
SOOO stoked to have all this snow again!
Assuming this all firms up nicely we are heading to Bridgeport sat-tues. Arriving sat late afternoon, heading up near Hulk/Kettle Peak, then up over Eocene across the ridge and down from Matterhorn via Horse Creek. If anyone's looking for company there are 2 and another tentative.
Any info on peaks south of Bishop ? Bishopweather.com looks promising. Wondering how thing south of there filled in
Just popped into this thread and read yesterday as yesterday and was like whaaaaaaaa?
Anyway, sweet. Good to see things are filling in over there. Makes sense. It is the first year in the last five I don't have a hell week in the desert come April. Would have been nice to escape north for a few days. Guess I need to make alternative April plans to get over there for a multi day trip.
Maybe I'll hit sawtooths for a day before then.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Eastside will go off this spring. For example, I'm guessing the chockstone in Third Pillar has been caked in.
Any beta on Lone Pine -Independence ? Onion valley road plowed ? Big Pine Creek road ?
Gonna hit something Saturday in no Mans Land. The Southern Sierra may be ready
Fingers crossed
My son skied Terminal Cancer today. said parts were waist deep. Sort of on the East Side.
off your knees Louie
Headed to Va Lakes this weekend. Holler if you see some skittles up there!
Anyone got an inside on the spur 2.5 hrs vs 45 mins I would wait if I thought it would go. The wood is k skiing sweet. No lift lines to speak of
Insanely deep, stable powder with amazing coverage in Twin Lakes. Didn't get above 9500' so can't speak of stability higher (big crown in choke on Ski Dreams). Dug pit on NE aspect at around 8900'. 200cm and no results whatsoever. Hard raincrust anywhere from 10"-2' under light fluffy snow that acted as a padding for what rocks and bushes were there. Best conditions I've ever skied on the Eastside. Ran into multiple parties starting multiple day tours. BRRRRR!!!
There seemed to be zero wind affect from this last slider storm.

Toured up Big Pine Creek this weekend. Long slog in but coverage was great with stable snow. Dug a pit around 9500 ft. Pack was about five feet deep. Rain crust about a foot down but well bonded.
Face shots all around.
Started out around Onino Valley but snow is still too thin down low.
Was a great weekend.
