yea, so I'd wait for the next storm and see how things develop. We'll see what next week brings. In the meantime keep it real, bitch.
I don't really want to get into a pissing contest over this, but it sounds like you are counting on it to bridge. One storm will not be enough to bury the faceted snow. The entire snowpack before this series was for the most part a faceted mess. Can we get enough snow and all the problems go away? Absolutely, but it will take a lot of snow for that to happen. Just because the weak layer is deep doesn't mean the dragon won't wake up if you find the sweet spot.

https://youtu.be/abJeyBhunuI sorry can't remember how to embed vids on here and it's harder with the tgr app. But this vid illustrates the statement above pretty well. Persistent slab + sweet spot and bad things happen. (edit. Pretty sure this video contains a fatality. If you don't want to see that, then don't click, but I think it's important to see)

Wow, there's a lot of experts on predicting the future snowpack here. Too bad you can't predict the stock market or fantasy football and make a lot of money.

I went and messed around in Milly/Twin Lakes area yesterday. Snow was pretty sweet where it hadn't been wind jacked. Nice Wasatch powder. It's pretty much an unconsolidated mass of snow top to bottom in most places and you can easily press your ski pole to the ground. I hit some steeper test slopes and didn't get anything to move. Wind was picking up last night when I left.

seriously. i drove home last night at midnite and the canyon patrol was flashing his blues at me as i passed him driving up, just above the S curve. within 1mile, i could feel the slippage and as i got to butler fork, the entire road became completely ice covered. i could feel the subie slipping a bit, so i did a brake test and sure enough, i was driving on a sheet of ice.

note: michelin X-ice Xi3 tires held a firm grip and got me home safely. highly recommended, phew!

In relation to this...how bad and widespread is this crust? Was thinking of touring Bear trap tomorrow but I might just do runs at soli instead of its shitty.

Edit: should have just checked uac observations before posting. It looks shitty. Time for beer runs and grilling tomorrow.

Got that right. Anything that got skied today was good. Anything untracked is gnasty breakable crust.

Yeah it was for sure more than what I call a zipper or onion crust. I'd say, where I poked my pole into untracked, it was close to an inch breakable before you hit the soft snow underneath. The next storm cycle should cover it all.

buckle up, utards. Looks like it's gonna be an interlodge-y week. +12" of water forecasted for NorCal and maybe 4.5" in the Wasatch. UAC is guessing +3feet of dense stuff between now and Christmas. Some of the models are calling for 100".

Check out the grey areas on the top two maps. +10" water and +60" of snow

snowfall rates at Alta-Collins. 100" by next weekend, according to the averaged-out model runs

wish i was there strategizing about canyon openings and closures

    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Beacon practice park at snowbird is up and running below the powderbirds. Went up yesterday, great practice. Need to practice more!

The one at solitude is not up yet as of yesterday.

Summit Park is pretty thin still. Maybe 18 inches deep, nothing to really note other than a crust about 6 inches off the ground, pretty rotten snow below that, but it was all supported by the bushes here so nothing moved during a quick pit dig.

Careful for snakes under the snow.
