    Probiotics

Listening to a doc on the radio about the gut the other day and he basically listed off symptoms I've been living with for about 10 years or more. For the most part I just deal with them, but I'm tired of it now. I asked him about probiotics and he said they're pretty much miracle workers. So I rushed to CVS and picked up Ultimate Flora RTS Extra Strength with 30 billion live cultures and 10 probiotic strains.

Am I going about this the right way? 24 hours and 2 pills in and I already feel better. Don't give a fuck if it's placebo at this point, but I have faith in this stuff. Don't tell me to eat better. I'm conscious of what I eat, but I eat a Philly Cheesesteak once /week and that's probably never going to stop. I love bread, cheese, and fruits and veggies as well. And I eat as much sushi as I can afford.

I really like Pearls Probiotics. I don't take them everyday but pop them every once in a while when I feel the need. I think they work and so do several other people I've turned on to them.

My horses all get probiotics esp in the Spring when new grass is coming on or when I get a new delivery of hay. I have seen it help them esp. one in particular who is prone to gas colic - probiotics will take care of it straight away saving him discomfort and me a vet bill.

You asked the doc on the radio?

FWIW, this is the stuff I take, recommended by some hippy at Whole Paycheck:

I try to take 3 tbs a day, but often forget. No idea if it helps, but it doesn't hurt.

No experience taking them myself (other than cultures in greek yogurt) as no GI tract issues, but they can work for some people.

Otherwise there's always the fecal transplant to consider.

Probiotics didn't do anything for me; oatmeal on the regular fixed my gut problem.

Yeah, I was trying to keep away from any details. I just figured there'd be a bunch of supplement munching people here, so thought I'd ask. I just went to this website… https://labdoor.com/rankings/probiotics and went to CVS, but, you know, what are the chances that web search was put there and created by Ultimate Flora or their subsidy? I didn't source check, but this shit is $30 for 30 pills.

Start a Kifir colony; my wife makes a Kifir smoothie every morning, and swears it works. Looks like a pain in the ass compared to just taking a pill, but ymmv.

Had a prescription for antibiotics that were ripping my GI tract to shreds; bad enough the antibiotics were discontinued. Found out probiotics can be used in unison with antibiotics for antibiotic reactions involving GI upset. Started taking two different types of probiotics to cover as many bases as possible and slowly worked my way back to full doses of the antibiotics. The shit worked.

We are just starting to understand the gut flora and how they impact our body. Probiotics are usually good and rarely hurt.

for me, not trying to cure anything. Just trying to have my body function better, immune system function better, etc. Not much different than taking a multivitamin or other supplements.

Just curious, cuz 5 months of probiotics didn't do a thing for my GIRD or antacid associated constipation.

I assure you constipation is not my issue. The stomach cramps and rush to the bathroom after almost any meal got real old. Two days in though, I've put it through a sitting of a chicken cheesesteak, bagel w/ sriracha cream cheese, a healthy portion of strawberries, and a chili cheese dog with onions and a Kevin Durant Sonic Nerds slushee, and I'm fine. Not proud of the Sonic visit, but I just had to try one once and I figure, why not put this stuff through it's paces.

Also, about once every two weeks I was having bad gag reflexes, sometimes partially induced by vodka, and I'd only puke up yellow. This was the main thing that hit home with the doc because he said that stomach acid or bile can destroy the good bacteria, and that these were basically the cure for that.

2nd person to mention steak ins to me in a week after never hearing about them in 31 years.

But nah, I gotta switch it up once in a while. The large Philly cheesesteak at Jersey Mike's is $16 because you have to get double meat and double cheese because they skimp so badly it's absurd - and it's still skimpy.

I thought pro-biotics were more about the Intestines than the stomach. Pretty sure you're replacing gut flora, not regulating your stomach acids (GIRD.)

That said I'm gonna try some of the ones Guroo suggested. $20 on Amazon Prime.

Does it make you fart rainbows?

I will swallow a couple pills now and then when my stomach tells me I've been eating like shit. It helps!

It may as well. I'm happy I'm able to fart again without being on pucker alert.
