watch out for snakes
Is that to eat or just to keep the vampires away?
Ya know, Paul Harvey hyped the shit out of some garlic product, said it added years to his life. I figure given the demographics around here, the likelihood that mags know who Paul Harvey was, and that excess product on your hands you could make a nice little profit.
I still call it The Jake.
We're still waiting for the rest of the story
“I have a responsibility to not be intimidated and bullied by low life losers who abuse what little power is granted to them as ski patrollers.”
Eleanor Roosevelt ate chocolate covered garlic every morning. May extend your life but won't do much for your looks.

"...if you're not doing a double flip cork something, skiing spines in Haines, or doing double flip cork somethings off spines in Haines, you're pretty much just gaping."
Good day

We've got about another 2 weeks for our sweets - they are looking pretty good.
Harvested the wheat day before yesterday, not a banner year. Normal harvest is 70 bushels. This year, because of the heat/lack of rain, it came in at 45 bushels. Kernels were there, they just didn't weigh anything.
Neighbors garden's garlic section went nuts this season. He says I can have all I want. What's your method for drying and storing?
In with the 9.
70 heads. A week ago. Drying in the basement as we speak.
Do you bale the straw? My shearer just told me of a guy he was shearing for who used straw with a lot of blow-over (the small, shriveled and subsequently light kernels that get blown thru the combine along with the chaff) for bedding -> anyhow they lost 4 ewes in one night because they went thru and ate all the kernels and bloated.
It gets baled but I don't use it for my horses because I've got one that will eat it and he's fat as it is so I use shavings. It's a pity because straw is a good cheap bedding that composts better than shavings but as you mentioned, it is not without it's issues. That said it is the better choice for sheep esp. if you have wool sheep. Waste hay is good also.
Most folks bundle and hang in a location out of the sun, yes garlic can get sun burnt, 4-6 weeks generally to cure. I just spread it on the racks and put it in my shed for about a month and call it good, then trim the leaves and roots and put into paper bags. Some will get pickled, some given away to friends and family, some eaten, some will be next years seed garlic.
It would be hard to have it in the house or basement due to the super strong smell whilst it cures but I am sure it drives off bugs and critters. Of note is the fact that deer will not jump the fence into my garden while the garlic is there.

If you roast whole heads and then freeze them you will have an endless supply of garlic for garlic bread. Let thaw and take off a clove then squeeze out the paste onto the bread. DELICIOUS!
