I have all the Looney Tunes DVD collections, and I still do Saturday AM cartoons for myself now and then. But those were produced in the 1940s-1960s and were the best part of the cartoon lineup.

I'll add my voice to the "there is all kinds of rad music coming out now" camp. I rarely listen to the stuff I loved in high school and college anymore.

    ADMIT IT. YOU'RE GETTING OLDER

Old was a state of mind from 22 to 45. Then old became a state of body.

Eight orthopedic surgeries from 11 to 42. Officially a handicapped person with no use of portions of my lower left leg in the last 14 years and means I can’t run. Peroneal Nerve finally severed at T1. Had to quit up to 70 rounds a year golf addiction of 34 years. Severe spinal stenosis from L3 and down means I don't ride a bicycle anymore. Have been a fusion candidate for 15 years.

No more rollercoasters and have to be prepared in crappy elevators.

PT has always been a part of my life. Very intense in the military and then 14 years of roadracing and then pretty much constantly in a state of recovery from injury and trying to avoid it.

Have around 3500 ski days all told. At least 2500 chiropractic adjustments. I see a nutritionist and eat right. Haven’t smoked or drank in a decade. (cept for a Heady Topper at TGR Ullerfest, courtesy of Peruvian). 6’2” and 204-218 most of my adult life up until age 47ish. I’ve lost almost 3” in height and 25lbs in mass in the last decade.

All my physical fitness (10 to 18hrs a week, 300 days a year) is geared toward skiing. Lots of of aerobic and anaerobic cardio and a lower percentage of resistance training. Much less about size, power and symmetry and more about endurance and functionality.

This keeps me off an operating table and in a tolerable state of pain. It allows me to ski the way I want to and manage to stay out of plateaus for extended periods of time.

My 13yr old has cried in my arms more than once. Telling how he hurts inside because his children will not know his dad. Times like these can make me feel old. My body has been through hell (like many here at TGR and quite the comfort), but the effort I put in makes it much easier to maintain a contemporary perspective.

I force myself to listen to pop and dubstep and modern blues, alternative and dance. I don’t get into the players and the moversnshakers, but I listen so that I can hear its influence on the current generation.

As to 60/70 music; I experienced firsthand the birth of a new genre in music. Like the classics or jazz. Rock & Roll transcends generations and had/has a broad influence on other forms of music because of the talent within. It’s often rebellious and defiant of “the man”. What’s not to love.

Age is trying to teach me that I shouldn’t shoot from the hip and speak for anyone but myself. Speaking in generalities will make you a pompous obtuse asshole. Facts are facts and the more subtly you introduce them the better they are received and try to talk in the first person 100% of time.

We watch woody wood pecker and courageous the cat, gigantor, magoo and quickdraw magraw/el kabong, rocky & bullwinkle, mighty mouse, green hornet, batman, magilla gorilla. underdog and Snagglepuss.

Yea, popcorn effect is prevalent in high use mode.
The shoulder season moisture changes bring pain but the popcorn effect goes away.

So I'm thinking the popcorn is not a bad sign. Unless you also feel things moving around.

Appreciated, but not totally warranted... other than the pain, I feel somewhere between 38 & 42. How long I can hold it there is anyone's guess. Among many things, not walking by mirrors in fear of your waist-line or profile has distinct offsetting positives.

Watching a very high percentage of people living that way illicit s my pity on the regular.

At 26 it seems there's a whole lot to look forward to. This past winter was the first time I felt myself aging, and noticed that my reaction time and quickness on skis had taken a subtle, but definitely noticeable hit compared to the past. Also, my pupils don't adjust to changes in ambient light as quickly as they used to, fortunately I'm still a ways away from glasses with 20/15 vision.

My knees do the popcorn thing, particularly the right one, but are stable and don't give me much beyond a bit of achyness from time to time.

I suppose this is for another thread, but I do think it's finally time to replace the mattress I bought at the start of my sophomore year of college though. Either that or the random back, neck and shoulder pain has already started.

As I say to anyone who bitches about getting older, it sure as shit beats the alternative.

I take steps to stay active, after a ski related injury had me running at about 50% capacity for 8 weeks earlier this winter, I let myself go, stopped being as active, gained weight, lost muscle tone, yadda yadda yadda. I'm working on staying lean now, as flexibility, balance and strength are more important to me than getting bulked up. At only 5'7'' my target is to settle in between 145-150 pounds and to stay there through regular exercise of all kinds. Currently at 156. While we're all getting older, I am lucky that I'm still young enough where weight loss comes reasonably quickly and easily, although once I'm done with this cycle I'm hoping to not have to "lose" again for a long time, all about maintenance.

Try deep frying them in canola oil heated to 400 degrees or so for a few minutes. Just maybe five of six at a time, or you will have oil all over your stove. Take the loose outer leaves off first, and slice in half. Layer in a bowl with a little crumbled cheddar cheese and crispy bacon. Just a little of both. Top with some more bacon.

    Your welcome.

Brussels Sprouts with Marjoram and Pine Nuts
    Bon Appétit | November 2001
    Yield: Makes 8 servings

    3 tablespoons butter
    1/2 cup pine nuts
1 1/2 pounds fresh brussels sprouts, halved, or 1 1/2 pounds frozen brussels sprouts, thawed, halved
1 cup canned low-salt chicken broth
    2 shallots, minced
    1 tablespoon chopped fresh marjoram
    1/3 cup whipping cream

Melt 1 tablespoon butter in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add nuts and stir until golden, about 3 minutes. Transfer nuts to small bowl. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in same skillet over medium heat. Add sprouts; stir 1 minute. Add broth; cover and simmer until sprouts are almost tender, about 7 minutes. Uncover and simmer until broth evaporates, about 5 minutes. Using wooden spoon, push sprouts to sides of skillet. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in center of same skillet. Add shallots; sauté until tender, about 2 minutes. Stir in marjoram, then cream. Simmer until sprouts are coated with cream, stirring frequently, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be made 4 hours ahead. Cover and chill. Stir over medium heat to rewarm.)
Transfer brussels sprouts to serving platter. Mix in half of pine nuts. Sprinkle with remaining pine nuts.

Shredded Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Vinegar and Pine Nuts
    Makes 4 to 6 servings

    1 pound small Brussels sprouts
    Salt
    1/4 cup pine nuts
    3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
    1 medium onion, chopped fine
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

    1. Bring several quarts of water to a boil in a saucepan.

    2. Meanwhile, trim and discard a layer or two of loose outer leaves from each Brussels sprout. Trim a thin slice from the stem end of each sprout. Add the trimmed sprouts and salt to taste to the boiling water. Cook until sprouts are almost tender, about 4 minutes. Plunge into a bowl of ice water. Cut the sprouts crosswise into thin strips and set aside.

    3. Place nuts in a large skillet over medium heat. Toast, shaking the pan occasionally to turn the nuts, until they are golden brown and fragrant, about 3 minutes. Transfer the nuts to a small plate.

    4. Briefly heat olive oil in the empty skillet. Add onion and saute over medium heat until golden, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

    5. Add Brussels sprouts and salt to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sprouts have browned slightly, 5 to 7 minutes. Add vinegar and cook just until the liquid evaporates, about 1 minute. Stir in nuts and adjust seasonings. Serve immediately.

    ^^^ Too complex. Lol

Cut sprouts in half; brown cut edges in a layer of olive oil in cast iron pan on stovetop, with diced garlic, pepper, and truffle salt. When brown, put pan in oven at 400 until cooked through. When done, mix with a small amount of balsamic vinegar. Use a fork to put them in your mouth; chew and enjoy.

I don't know if the "new music" of the age has changed for the worse, but the purveyors like radio station and record labels sure suck way, way, WAY more. With the innert00bs, the distribution game has changed and while the record companies shafted virtually every rock/pop musician, are the artistic innovators able to make it from their work?

Also, are there any really new genres of pop music since the 60s?

Yes, I'm older than most of you, including iceman, and I concede that my disappointment in humanity is increasing in the face of a dented hope. That said, I treasure the friends I've made and the swell times I've had with a small segment of you k00ks and I'll always keep an eye out for that perfect turn just over the next ridge. I'll see you out there.
