Sony Action Cam users, need setting advice.

Got a new HDR-AS200V Action Cam (basically same as AS100V). Obviously for skiing footage, going to Japow this season and want some nice Heli footage.

Was after experienced users to post their best raw footage settings.

Will be using steady shot (thats why i got the Sony). Last seasons GoPro footage was a complete fail...

I will be using this in a few weeks time in Australia and plan to play around with settings. But if i could skip a few days messing round with it, that would be ideal.

    Mainly after:

COLOUR - Natural OR Vivid (differences with mainly white/snow backdrop).

    MP4 V's XAVC S while using Steady shot. Pro's and Con's.

    60p V's30p

Goggle mount V's selfie. Any noticeable differences in settings needed?

I expect a few Sony hate comments

Haven't used my AZ1 on snow yet (had the AS15 before), but for biking through brush you need the highest bitrate you can get to reduce compression artifacting, which means using XAVC-S and a big memory card. 60fps is needed for any slow motion and could possibly get you smoother exports, but I assume the processor might use more compression at 60fps...and obviously I hate compression artifacts, lol.

Using a 64Gb SDXC UHS-1 card, so thats not a problem. I assumed that as you cant use 4K and steady shot at the same time, the lower the bitrate the better steady shot would actually work?

But ive seen some videos with compression artifacts, really takes away from the whole thing. I hate it too! Dont know what is worse, a pix-elated video or one so shaky you cant even watch it...

64GB isn't a big card with XAVC-S, and your model can't shoot 4K. Sony in-camera stabilization works well, but it narrows the FOV too much for a relatively slow-speed sport like biking or skiing (I'm sure it's great for race cars). I've had better luck capturing at 180 degrees without the stabilization, then running the footage through Premiere Pro Warp Stabilizer at 10% or 15%. To stabilize much XAVC-S footage, you better have a pretty muscular computer with multiple drives or it'll take days to process. I just added an external USB 3.0 drive to spread the load (internal SSD and 7,200 HDD). I'm just learning about video, so no doubt other guys here would have better advice.

Ive got two 64Gb cards, with the ability to transfer files at the end of each day. According to Sony ill be able to shoot constantly for 5 hours. Thats more than enough time for the day.

I purposely didn't get the 4k camera as it cant be used with steady shot. I went with this option as i have
proDAD Mercalli and tried to use it with my last season GoPro footage. It was terrible, my computer isnt great and my editing skills are beginner at best. Which means the whole exercise was a bit pointless really.

I figured i could get the best of both worlds with this way. Hopefully once i mess around with some more filming/editing i can look at a better set up.

Thanks heaps for your advice so far, i think ill go with XAVC-S to start with and see how it turns out...

Anyone messed with Vivid or Natural colour?

Vivid is the default, so im assuming its the preference as the manual states natural is a low contrast.

    1) photo/vid forum may be a better place than this.
    2) this answer usually depends on if you plan on doing any color correction....
