    I think I need a surfboard...

    So,

I'm moving back to Lima in July. Last Summer/Fall I got kinda stir crazy with life in another latin-american megalopolis. It seems to me that surfing most days in the mornings or evenings might take care of that.

I can see the little breaks from our place in Miraflores and it's only a 15-20 minute walk. I hear surfing is really hard, but a nice walk and dicking around in the water for a while sounds pretty good too.

Got a wetsuit and will try not to swallow any of the urban effluence. There's a fair number of people out there every day so I'm hoping at worst it will boost my immune system and possibly introduce another life-altering avocation to my quiver.

What kind of board should I be looking for? Length? Weight? Price? Any brand/model suggestions? It might be easier or cheaper to buy here but they don't sell boards in Silverton, where it is currently snowing, so maybe not.

You got boogy boarder written all over you

Leave the surfing to the pro-skiers. It's their cool.

(Get a chubby 7 foot board that makes surfing slightly easier. Start swimming when you are not surfing to ease the upper body strain, also do pushups with a clap in between. Learn to duckdive... good luck on the chubby board.)

Mid length and lots of foam; volume is your friend. Swim, swim, swim for fitness/paddling. Time in the water/waves to nail down the timing. Don't be a greedy pig once you learn to catch waves; giving waves to other enriches your life and theirs.

Surfing is wunderfab, and walking to the surf is the best.

    Good luck

Depends on the kind of break in your area, but get a 9' or 9'6" longboard to start unless it's a shortboard wave. If it is, start on a "funboard", which is kind of between a longboard and a shortboard. Bigger is easier when you're starting out, small boards are for experts and/or steep wave faces that curl right away.
