Just took a Bucksaw for a little test cruise. Wasn't able to ride dirt, but a couple bumps and a little wooden obstacle. So yeah, I pretty much want one of those.
If there was room for a 4.5" or bigger tire in the rear I would sell every other bike I own to get one of them. Fkn sweet ride! I've gotten so spoiled by the extra wide footprint I don't even like the 4" on my Farley, good thing my kids love it.
Got some tough news that my father in law passed away last week. So this means I'll in Maine quite a bit this summer helping the mother in law with some projects around the house. What does this have to do with biking? I would like to find some places to ride up there around Augusta. I found a few places from the ol' intrawebs but was hoping for some more concrete recommendations.
Did you ever wonder if you did the right thing or if you overreacted?
I was out riding with my daughter tonight and around 9pm we came across a kids bike pretty far into the woods. It didn't look like it had been there for very long at all, no leaves on it, very little dust even and no significant damage that would cause someone to dump it and walk out. We had just been there a few days ago and it wasn't there. There are a fair number of users in this spot but I've never seen anybody else on this trail in the five years I've been riding there so it felt weird and kinda wrong if you know what I mean. We stopped and turned our lights off to listen and try to sense movement but it was eerily quiet. I felt obligated to call it in to the local PD even though I know we're not supposed to be riding in there at night. They called me back after they got the map from the parks dept and I gave them the exact spot where we found the bike so they said they are sending a "unit" out to take a look. I feel bad sending a cop into the woods at night but if somebody is hurt and I helped I won't feel bad at all. If its just kids being kids I'll be pissed if I get shut out of my favorite night ride spot by ratting myself out. The cop on the phone seemed to understand that I was just trying to do the right thing though so hopefully I didn't just cause myself a problem.
Sorry to hear about your father in law.
Augusta has a few places but within a 30 min drive options open up.
Bond brook in Augusta is a pretty decent system that is improving all the time. Maps are available on the central Maine nemba website. Signage is pretty "loose" so I'd book some time to explore.
Also "The res" in hallowell is an option, albeit small. I'd head there just to say I rode it. Probably 7 or so miles worth of single track weaves in and out of double.
Inland Hospital in Waterville is seeing the most development in the past few years. I'm not sure exactly what the mileage is but they keep expanding. The trails are well thought out and have plenty of character to keep it interesting.
Send a pm and I can give you a few more thoughts.
Sorry to hear VT. If you can swing it a drive up to the loaf is more than worth it. You can car camp in the parking lot at the outdoor center, pretty much ground zero for the trails

I had a really stoopid fall on Monday and nuked my ribs. It was in our new techy zone on not a very techy featureI lifted onto a piece of granite and a big dead branch had sagged into my line. I ducked and then no idea what happened exactly, but my front tire caught, turned and I went down quick. Fell only and extra 1.5 - 2' onto flat ground, but my elbow slammed into my rib cage. It doesn't feel very good...either bruised of a slight crack or two. Joy.
Place is awesome, indeed. Great for families, heading back late August. Hope to get an off-the-map tour and link up some more of that back country as well as the new school stuff.
Meanwhile....in Central Vermont... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z02VKRw1TJ8

Bump. You're letting me down NE. Pic it up, yo.
Dear Diary,
Today I rode my mtb on dirt. I have a pathetic right quad and I it hurt like a mother to get up on the pedals, but it was re-god-damn-diculously fun. I went very fast. That was irresponsible, but again, fun as fuck. I plan to hit singletrack on July first. One more thing diary... so fucking fun.

Heading up to STAB and whatever for a couple day mini-trip next week maybe. Got the big(ger) bike in lift terrain trim, eagerly awaiting the weekday openings - so much better for my work schedule! Meantime.
A few recent-ish.
