To the best of my knowledge there is a single design for bike racks, they accommodate between 2 and 3 inch tires. The current crop of 4 and 5 inch tired bikes will likely bounce off the trays as they pass over the sheave trains, they are outside the design spec.

We do not load "fat bikes" at Thunder Mountain.

That's too bad. My wife and kids wanted to come up and ride on Columbus Day...

I think park operators need to add a few fat trays to the line. There are only going to be more and more of us going forward.

Saw a guy on a fatbike rolling all the lips on the jump trail, so unless he pedaled up he got on the lift somehow...

That being said, if you're gonna be that guy on a fat bike, don't ride the jump trail and roll the lips.

    Anyone riding MTB6 this weekend?
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

The uphill trails are nice at Charlemont. You do need a pass to ride the park trails, and you probably want reasonable pressure in the tires on anything but the Green Trail to prevent pinching or wrecking a rim.

Heh. I'm the guy that avoids the jump lines. Something about not being broken appeals to me

Considering a maiden voyage to Highland this weekend. Anyone tried the "find your ride" program? Seems worth it if nothing else than for a discount on a 6"+ downhill rig

Probably bringing along my bike to check out the xc stuff there as well.

Depending on how set on biking the Highland XC trails you are, you might consider checking out Spaulding Woods or Franklin Falls nearby instead. I think they are a lot more fun, and certainly flowier and smoother than Highland, which is a bit of a haul up point down type of network. Not bad, but probably not much different than the lift serve (although I can't really comment since I've never ridden lifts there).

Totally disagree with you on the conti. I have never been a fan of Conti but gave them a shot as they came on my new whip. Rubber is very hard so not a lot of wear during a summer of riding. On the other hand if it is at all damp [never mind wet] they slide all over the place. I have gotten used to the sliding though I look forward to mounting a grippy tire before the fall season hits.
Says "Protection" on the sidewall? Shitty sidewall is like a cheap restroom condom applied over the sidewall plies. Seeps goo overnight constantly and the bead nears the floor is always wet. Speaking of wet, when the trails are wet this hunk of shit loses 10-15 psi after around 5 miles of riding, so a pump up is required mid ride. Can't wait to bin these.

Franklin Falls was on the list. Maybe I'll split the day up and end there. I've heard good things.

I'd say highland's XC trails are well worth the stop. There's a few new options between Beaver Feaver and 820 to offer less grueling climbs. You can pedal a fairly flat grade from the lot to about 2/3rds up the trail network.

Personally, I find them to be some of the most fun xc trails in the area, especially ridden off the top.

I had a similarly poor experience with mountain kings, also the protection version. I've heard the trail kings actually have a better rubber compound (despite having the same black chili name) but I'm not willing to spend more than $25 to find out.

Gets better, out for a ride last night and on my way back home on a long loop. Hit a section of asphalt between zones and feel my bike wobbling around. Look down and see my back wheel is all out of whack. Get home and flip the bike over, give the wheel a spin and use a twig for a quick rim check to find the wheel is within 1 mm all around. The tire though is up to 1/4" out in a couple of places. Still holding air but obviously falling apart internally.
I've got a Nobby Nic to try, we'll see how this works out.

Sorry buddy Sounds kinda like tubeless issues. Whatever juice you're using is breaking down the casing and the leaky sidewall problem is from this too. Protection is only about the extra layer in there to reduce the chances of a tear. The burping is from a broken down sidewall due to bad juice and from running too low pressure. I have heard similar "problems" before and that's what it came down to. I'm low 160's and run mid to high 20's front and 28-30 rear with tubes and never had any trouble. In fact I've only had one pinch flat in the last five years and that was my fault.

Spaulding Woods are ok not great. Highland XC trails are fun but yeah you climb. The Falls are fast and have great flow. I have been thinking about the "find your ride" program myself. Not sure if I can keep up this weekend I beatered hard at a race on Sat and have a soft cast maybe ligament damage. The good news is I no longer need my left thumb to shift now that I'm 1X.

Anyone riding Mountain Creek or Blue Mountain on weekends? Looking for someone to follow around on the DH bike.

I'll send a photo to Competitive Cylist and ask them what they used for goo when they set it up. I do not buy into that low pressure crap and run between 35 and 42 all the time. I tried that low pressure deal and when I went through downhill compression turns my sidewall made a sound like that tongue wheel in Caligula. Couple of times with that happening and I went back to my regular pressures. Riding in the MRV for close to 25 years I have no problems with climbing traction till I tip over backwards. I also didn't like the increased rolling resistance of a soft tire.

Bummer. Sorry to hear it. I hope it heals up quickly.

Hit me up if you decide to ride. We are definitely there Sunday. If you feel like just spinning around Franklin, I am sure I can work that in too.

We are meeting at 9 at Highland. I can easily do an afternoon ride at Franklin if that works
