    Curling/Shuffleboard, differences?

Having this discussion with a co-worker today. What is the difference between curling and shuffleboard, besides the obvious.

Yes, one is played on ice and the other on concrete. Yes, one is played with a large piece of granite and the other a small ceramic? disc. One is played more in Canada than Florida.

What about scoring differences and strategy?

    Discuss.

    Curling/Shuffleboard, differences?

Most stones thrown in curling do not follow a linear trajectory. A spin is placed on the stone, so when the rock slows, it 'curls' in the direction of the spin, allowing the stone to actually be placed behind another. This curling effect is amplified by sweeping the ice in front of the stone.

And it's a motherfucking Olympic sport.

I demand shuffleboard be allowed in the summer Olympics.

Shuffleboarders suffer from the same discrimination that their fellow boarders face at Alta.

Bocce/lawn bowling is an all terrain sport. In fact, the more gnarly the terrain, the more fun it is. Lots more fun to play it on some slope with dips and rocks than on a boring lawn.

    That's easy!!

Curling is something that middle-aged Canadians do, and shuffleboard is something that Canadians do once they get old and move to Palm Springs or Florida.
