    MTN Approach skis

Good one for the maggot split crowd. We let Cory Smith from MTN Approach vouch for why his system is better than having a splitboard, and it's sparked some pretty energetic back-and-forth about it. Figured you'd enjoy checking this out: http://www.tetongravity.com/story/sn...ng-or-bullshit

Ha! I have some skis like that called Hoks from Altai ski. They don't fold though.

I use them when my woman wants to snow shoe or kicking around in the woods meadow skipping with the dogs. They are actually really fun to ski in powder with light tele boots and pins.

I used them last season, solid and definitely get the job done but they are on the heavy side.

Any mags in NoVT should pm VTColdSmoke, he is a local rep and can give you all the info you need and possibly get you set up with a demo.

For just over $300 you can get 125 cm Hoks with a universal(like the Mtn Approach) binding and they're anything but heavy. Just strap them on the outside of your pack for the down.

That Mountain Approach rig is spendy and heavy.

125 cm?? That's like a big snow blade. You weren't wallowing in dep snow on those?

I have the 145cm ones and they're 110 mm under foot. I didn't expect them to ski very well but they're actually a blast. Float isn't really the issue but fore/aft balance is.

I'm not going to call them bullshit but they certainly aren't my cup of tea. I just don't notice enough of a difference between a split a a regular board to want to carry approach skis.

I'm not a snowboarder but that would be my take. If you're gonna use these things, might as well ski.

Is it really "vouching" if it's your own product you're doing a sales pitch on?

    Suppose not... "arguing" maybe?
