    Construction Biz sortware recommendations

The "one crew" landscape construction company I drive for is booming. The crew is almost too efficient. Most projects are 5 days or less and half the time two jobs are going at once and maybe some warranty work too on a 3rd. The owner is doing 70 hour weeks driving all day to sell, manage and keep it running with a smartphone, CC, check book and a cardboard box stuffed with receipts. The bean counter is having a melt down trying to keep track of things. Pretty sure that profit is an educated guess. Any recommendations on a construction biz program with easy entry to use on a smart phone or pad that will help keep track of the mess with less time and effort?

I have a friend who is a one man show general contractor. He was, for some reason, very smart phone adverse. Insisted that all he needed was a flip phone and a notepad. That is until I showed him Evernote and how he can just take pictures of everything that matters and organize it and never lose home depot receipts ever again.

Quick books does pretty all a small business needs, at least on the business side. Proprietary software that allows landscape drawings and such things might be useful, but likely to cost way more. All my accounting is done with QB. While I have proprietary software, it is because the business grew up with it as it evolved, long before a quality QB existed. If I were starting from scratch, I suspect the current version of QB alone could satisfy my needs, at least business wise.

+ 1 on QB. If your boss is lucky his CPA will be QB literate and offer advice on how/what to use to make running the business more efficient. Most CPA's that work for small businesses are familiar with QB these days. Tell him it'll be the best few hundred he'll spend since he bought his first mower. Once you go to "pro" or "industry" software it goes to thousands from hundreds AND difficult to use.

If you are too big for QB you might try Sage. I'm not sure what the cut off is in volume, where it would make sense for your trade.

I use it, I think it was about $8k+ the yearly. Originally it was a gc program for new houses but you'd never know that now. They have a guy in Colorado that does all the updates. I think he told me he does the software for 60 companies, I see him about twice a year. I've done up to $15m a year on it but I think QB would be better for somebody in my trade doing less than $2m. If you want to grow it might make sense.

2-3 days a week with a month off here and there. But I'm always in the seat on any epic powder days. I am also the VP of employee safety and entertainment. And I'm asked to be the Moderator in some Contractor/Customer disputes. And I'm the Manager of the In-Field IT department.

Winner. Thanks. The Acct Dept is using QB and spends too much time digging under floor mats and seat backs looking for receipts and figuring out which job they go with. This will free up some valuable time for forward thinking. I'm going get this done and ask for a raise.

Loose Change? There would be that. I consider it a perk to be driving through some interesting entrances seeing places I would never see.

I thought you were into accessory electronics distribution to new small specialty retailers? I had 3 careers doing that and now I'm a truck driver/consultant. Jobs taken.

Moderate, v. - avoiding extremes of behavior or expression : observing reasonable limits- Merriam-Webster

Moderator, n. - One who intercedes to facilitate opposing parties to be moderate in their debate
physics - substance to aid in controlling a nuclear reaction

    Moderator seems an appropriate title

The cement pond had it's own room. And the design motif is at the least, consistent.
