    Buying a car through email

There was a great discussion about this, but I can't find the damn thing.

I've got the basics down, but have a couple questions.

Should I include the trade-in as part of my initial email, or does that come after I've selected a dealer? It seems to me that I should include it, since my main concern is the bottom-line, not just the vehicle price.

Do I ask for out-the-door price, or just the price of the vehicle before taxes/fees?
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

was it this thread you were thinking of?
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

I do this, with good results..

First email needs to be a inquiry on the car, and their "best price".

Offer less, and wait for a counter offer.

Introduce trade after sales price is negotiated. Take the car to carmax for a appraisal, so you know what your car is worth.

If it is a new car, contact multiple dealers.

Never include trade in initial inquiry unless you just want to dump it wholesale.
