Quick Jong question: negative angle stem with a spacer vs 0d stem

    I currently have a 70mm by 6d.
I want to go lower, and a tad shorter. Definitely a little lower. Easier to corner, and I still have 785 bars. This thingy says that a 60mm x 0d stem and a 60mm x -6d stem with a 5mm spacer are practically the same reach/height. The latter is, of course, more plentiful, cheaper, and can be had to match my neon green seetpost and be totally enduro, yo.
It seems like despite what the math says, my personal experience says inverted stem would be twitchier. (I've done it before, years ago, and just trying the 70 flipped over with a spacer under it now).
    Truth, or in my head?
I told you this was jongy as fuck, so TIA.

    PS: cue creaky tirade, lol

I think they will be the same. But why not try flipping your stem and see?

I flipped the 70 and added a spacer. Kinda weird.

Sure, totally. I just thought maybe there was a difference because of how it pushes/pulls on the bars/steer tube.
    Whatever.
I guess I can always sell it I don't like it.
    Thanks.

If you want lower, why are you using the spacer? Flip stem, run as low down as you can. See how it feels. Still want shorter? Buy a 60mm stem with the -6/+6 and go from there.

    It ain't rocket surgery.

You're probably feeling the flex in the steerer tube. That's what happens when you leave the steerer too long, and run a negative rise stem to compensate.

It's slammed to the headset at +6 and only has a 5mm under it at -6 so it's not too long.
I suppose it's possible I need a headset adjustment, wink wink nudge nudge.

Steertube is even shorter than when I first built the bike and the stem is not on more than 5mm of spacers. And it's an aluminum steer tube, so shouldn't that be stiffer than steel?

Just flip your stem and see if that scratches your itch.

And shits not slammed with 5mm underneath it.

Flip it, put the 5mm on top then post it to http://slamthatstem.com/

    Nope. Definitely steerer tube flex.

Only way around it is to stiffen up the front end -- I recommend a dual-crown fork:

If you can still feel flex, get a direct-mount stem:

... of course, I could just be talking out of my ass, in an effort to see how much ridiculous stuff we can get Stuck to bolt onto his bike.

I just wanted to say "triple clamp" cuz it's been a while. Also, "forks" whilst referring to the singular one a bike.

I can't wait to see stuckie's next obsessive conviction, but at the same time, I'm sure it will be yet another On-Paper Upgrade designed to help him SHRED THE GNAR, BRO in his mind.

I can see stuckie as a car mechanic: he'd be the guy who just replaces everything he imagines potentially culpable, until at some future point the vehicle begins to run better.
