I would think the only downside is that somebody else got to drive the car when it was brand-spanking new, for the same monthly price that you're spending on a used car. But if they put money down, and are not expecting you to put money down, maybe they will end up paying the immediate depreciation rather than passing it on to you. That said, evaluate the mileage, and if the leasing compnay isokay with with the assumption of the lease, you'll be good to go. The downsides are just the usual downsides of leasing: no ownership, mileage limits, negative equity in the event of totalling the car.
Wow.
You sure have a firm grasp on the obvious.
If you're not already, you should be teaching a HS business class.

The PR is so cool. 124 people viewed this thread. 1 person at least tried to be helpful. And 2 others were complete jackholes who offered nothing useful whatsoever.
Strong work, guys.
^commonlaw's response wasn't all that helpful, but I wouldn't accuse him of "trying"...

I took over a lease through Leasetrader on a Toyota 4runner back in 2008. Process was very easy. The lease had something like 15 or 16 months left. Ended up buying it out at the end of the lease. The original lessor had put down a hefty down payment that I was able to benefit from with low monthly payments and a very reasonable purchase price at the end of the lease. I could not have been happier and would consider doing something similar in the future.
Incomplete facts. Who is responsible for overages?

The person returning the lease. There are good deal to be had and bad ones. Look for leases that have enough miles to cover YOUR habits. Confirm with the lease company their perimeters. Subie is a good one because they waive the first 1K in wear & tear..tires, windshield ect. Confirm the disposition fee.

Leasing is a good idea?
I thought it was it was for company cars employees in bloated wasteful industries, old people and people who rent microwaves?

Get the stick out your ass, jimmy.
That's were I've been looking. Seems like you can get an extend test drive under warranty and then get a decent price on a used car that you are familiar with.
Some would say obtuse.
I call bullshit on this. I wrote this on leases over at Epic.... http://www.epicski.com/t/128204/leas...sing-explained
