If only Costco still took Amex. I want to get the miles and their buyer protection is nice
Been very happy with king Caspars. Never felt hot and they are pretty firm. I can't stand a soft mattress, they kill my back, I've never had that wit the Caspars. The ones we got are now their mid-line models, they introduced a higher-end version but no idea what that means to the user.
In the bed market myself. I noticed the current CR in Safeway last night was the mattress issue. Paged through it and none of the really expensive mattress were tested. Most were under 2k.
Don't remember much of the test results other than "Sleep on Latex" was a brand I needed to check out. Anyone have experience with them?
Lets put it this way. Just my take, but walking through Target yesterday and they were setting up an entire display for Casper beds...being sold in Target seems like a death knell to me...just saying. The display was going to take up a decent amount of floor space. They had the $65 pillows out on display.
I was in the Casper retail store in cherry creek this week. They don't have the low end target bed there. Nobody in the store has ever laid on one either, I was told they are a super soft IKEA/4 year college student bed.
The two (they had 3 but you could only lay on 2) they had in the store were fine but they don't tell you whats in them because its lower end stuff. They sold tea, pillows, 400 count sheets(the guy lied and said anything over 400 thread count wouldn't breathe), pillows, a comforter, cashmere blankets, a magazine and pet beds. I liked the cover on the nicer bed but the cheaper one zipped off better. I didn't feel much difference between the two.
Ended up going for Casper because we had a coupon, and their 100 day return policy made it an easy risk.
After about 3 weeks we are really happy with it. So much better than what we had before. I noticed that I'm not really tossing and turning in the night like I was before.
Casper is a low end line. For the less money you can get a costco mattress or something better for the same price.
In the short run (2-6 years before you get a dent) you will like it but they use mostly cheap polyurethane. The wave is better long term but for $2k there are better designs and material builds.
Mattress shopping is hard. Im looking at Sealy Conform High Spirits on Thursday, I have no clue.
The less they tell you whats in them, them the bigger the scam.
Polyurethane is bad.
Gel foam and latex are way better. I like energex foam at about 2-3 pounds under a latex layer.
Lay on one and see if you like it.
I got one I could swap the layers on and change the feel. My back feels weird now and then from constant crashes and I like to mix things up.
I also got one I could trade out the top cover if the dog eats it or something.
We bought two Sealy king sized mattresses for our condo a few months ago. I think that we got the Grand Lake model from AFW. I wanna say they were around $1100 maybe? Bought with bed frames and delivered. Super easy. Slept on the mattress a few times, and they are really comfortable. Firm but not too firm. We rent the condo out and everyone who's stayed there has raved about the beds too.
I still don't trust all these memory foam beds that they won't break down super fast and most cost about as much as a traditional spring mattress. I've heard that foam mattresses might not perform as well at altitude.
Still loving my Beauty Rest Black (middle model of 5) after 5 years and my guests rave about the Englander in the spare room (I think it's the second to the top of the line but I bought it 8 years ago). Englanders are made in Portland Oregon FWIW.

What? Diamond dust? Special mattress cover? <cornfused>
It's an innerspring mattress. Looking at their web page (BTW it's all one word "Beautyrest" not two words like I typed earlier) it looks like they have quite a few more in the line-up or maybe the place I shopped only carried 5. Anyhoo.... I know it's a "luxury firm" and it's not a pillow top. I paid around $1200 5 years ago in Oregon. Even if I remembered the model name I don't think that would help because I've read that each retailer uses their own unique name so as to avoid price shopping.
FWIW way back in this thread, somewhere in the first 5 pages, there is a mag who sells or did sell mattresses and he swore by his Beautyrest Black. It was was the one he chose out of everything he sold. That is the reason I even looked at it. I spent the better part of 2 weeks mattress shopping. Even brought my own pillow so I could really give it a good try. I had horrible back pain from my old mattress but since getting my Beautyrest pain is gone!
Note: Salesman told me once I got the mattress to walk on it to help break it in and I would recommend this too. The new mattress was a lot firmer than the one I tried in the show room.
Re: Mattress cover in addition to fitted sheet and mattress pad: it's a nice idea. It will keep dander, sweat and body oils out of your mattress and should you or a pet have an accident your mattress is protected. I do have a protective cover, which is like a fitted sheet, on my guest bed. It goes against the mattress under the mattress pad. You just never know...........
Edit: Well looking at first page of this thread I see I posted my model was the Camille and I bought it in 2013.

Montanaskier was the mag. Here's his shop, if he/it is still there:

Montanaskier no longer owns a shop, but he's still in the business I believe, certainly a better source of info than the average used car, I mean mattress, sales person.

i bought that zinus green tea mattress that was the recommended budget line in several reports. couldn’t be happier, sleeping really well although there is a faint plastic smell still after a month. their bed kicks ass too if anyone is looking for a cool simple metal frame.

Bump this up.
We are in the market for an ADJUSTABLE mattress and frame. Probably looking at two twins so that we can adjust independently.
What are some of the better, more reliable brands for adjustable bases? Anything specific that we should look for?
Do you have to use memory foam mattress with adjustable? This seems like every one that we find comes with memory foam. Wife has it in her head that she hates memory foam.
Lastly, for aesthetic purposes, where can you find the faux frames that work with adjustable? It seems like all I can find is the bases, but we want something around the exterior so it doesn't look all janky. For some reason, I just can't find these in the interwebs.
After over a decade on tempurpedic, we went saatva innerspring. Great mattress for the money. Mail order, even hauled out the old one.
1) so much better if the room is cold
2) I forgot about the value of bounce and rebound in the boom boom room

Bold choice. I hear you on the bounce but foam is where it's at for me. The Tempurpedic I have is fucking comfortable.
Going back to an innerspring myself. 16 months on a piece of shit Tuft and Needle was too much.
During my move to Washington I spent 6 weeks sleeping on a Therm-a-rest set up on top of a cot, and my back felt worlds better than it ever did on the Tuft and Needle. After getting my old mattress delivered finally, I spent 2 nights on it before I flipped it up against the wall and went back to my cot.
I'm hesitant to even put it in the guest room, as the thing had a significant impact on my sleep quality.
Just bought a Casper. Packaging was demolished. Wish it was firmer. Fine otherwise.
