    Capital in the Twenty-First Century

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/29/op...democracy.html

Piketty, a professor at the Paris School of Economics, does not stop there. He contends that capitalism’s inherent dynamic propels powerful forces that threaten democratic societies.

Krugman and his friends love it, he's quite the sensation among the eastern elites right now, Fox is labelling him a Marxist, and it doesn't help that he's French, in that camp.

It's become one of those books a lot of people discuss, but nobody has read, or probably will read.

He's right, though. My daddy had it all wrong. Hard work will get you nowhere. He should have taught me to accumulate capital asap, and live off of that.

Hard work will get you everything if you are truly committed.
Phaggots that blame their "Daddy" for their shortcomings never go anywhere.

Hopefully this book will spark a change between stockholders and CEO's regarding pay structure but I doubt it since most investors would rather turn a blind eye to CEO pay and blow off the worker bee as long as the stock is rising.

Recent rulings by the Supreme Cunts allowing Capital to spend and distort democracy would seem to prove him right.

Democracy is fundamentally an attempt to provide for governance on some basis other than wealth. Wealth, however, will always try to take care of its own. And since wealth, in every society in every time, is a considerable form of power, it is almost always going to be self-advancing. Democratic or vote-based power, is almost always at odds with itself. The circumstances where the people come together in broad support of a single ideal are quite rare, too rare to overcome capital's constant self-advancement. Capital's slow and steady appraoch will win the race until there is a moment of radical, usually destructive, change.

Aren't you living off your slum rents in Denver? Where's the hard work in that?

Why bother to read it? I caught a ten minute blurb on NPR today, so I'm pretty much good to go by Fox News standards.

That said, I am intrigued and might have to read more.... especially if I want to sound intelligent at the dog park.

No, not at all. I hate America because of all the Americans.

If you would get your fat, dumb asses out of the way I could truly enjoy this country of ours.

Last time I checked, the United States is not, and has never been, a democracy. I sure hope it never becomes one either.

Anyone here read it? I would like to.

I've read parts, though not since publication of the book. The book in its entirety is on my to-do list now that it has gotten so much buzz.

    N. Gregory is being a bit disingenuous on Points 2 and 3. Thank you for linking to his review. He is a smart guy, but he has been a dedicated political flack since he went to work for Bush.

A million dollars is a lot less money than it used to be, too.

To have a net worth of over a million dollars is not easy to come by at all.
