letterman was somewhat edgy at times way back when he ripped ge and nbc constantly. i never thought he was funny but i watched. leno is just a giant sucker of hollywood cock. i doubt colbert will have the same leash he's had. whatever he does, i'll always respect him for the press corps dinner shredding shrub. one of the most clutch in your face performances in my lifetime.

    discover and coopt.

That clip answered something I've always wondered about the show: are the guests primed or cold.

Yeah, his interaction with Kerry is something, though. That's a powerful man.

are you guys crazy? colbert is perfect for this, he's got to be the smartest/funniest guy on tv. i saw him at a comedy festival panel thing where he was out of character years ago, everything he said was funny. everything. he's incredibly quick witted

but who watches late night network tv anymore?

Am I the only one that remembers the white house correspondents dinner where he was the speaker? That guy is fearless and hilarious. I never cared for letterman or leno but I might watch Colbert.

It will be a better world with Colbert taking Letterman's place.
I'm sure he'll be judged by his ratings.

Colbert should be good -looking forward to it.

In other news, has anybody seen Seth Myers? I always thought Weekend Update on SNL was well done but from a talk show standpoint, it fucking bombs and dies. So terrible. Between the fake Fred Armisen 'lies' bits, the awful set, and the humor that is so dry it might just blow away, I don't see it lasting long.

    Colbert "funny" and "wicked smart"?

I see the median IQ of TGR remains around 75 on the S-B, and the "humor" remains lodged firmly at the 8th grade level.

You know what would be really funny? Someone making fun of smug and ironically stupid "progressives". Colbert's schtick isn't funny because its sole purpose is reinforcement of partisan "progressive" opinions. It's like Portlandia -- supposedly satire, but failing because done by people who are as pathetic-hipster as the targets of the "satire."

Good move by Colbert. The Report act was a gimmick.

It's actually a well known fact that people who like Colbert have a way higher IQ than those who don't.

I believe you're looking for the word 'proven'. As in 'proven by statistics'.

And you have a hate on for statistics because...

"Rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenberg" generates a lot of dividends from me.

I don't care if you have a raging hard-on for the letter N, I meant what I typed. somehow that irks you, I guess. is you one of dem pwoggies?

if you aren't aware that statistics and polling are the most manipulable "proof" (quotations intentional to show euphemism rather than literalism), I'm not sure how I can help you on that one, smartie. fool gonna believe what fool gonna believe.

    ********

    cherry-breaker,

how is it you conclude Team Donkey doesn't rearrange deck chairs on sinking vessels? because a lame-ass "comedian" suggested it's just a Team Elephant issue?

Oh cf, jumping to those tiresome presumptive conclusions again.

It doesn't take any balls to be an asshole online.

It takes some balls to be an asshole at the White House Press Correspondents dinner to that extent, that's all.

Actually if you think about it it's the farthest thing from 'takes balls'. It takes a huge amount of lack of respect for the office (even at a roast of sorts - this isn't Comedy Central and the President isn't Flavor-Flav) and a guaranteed echo chamber of ideas among audience members. He knew he could get in cheap shots in a room full of like minded people - not exactly a daring thing to do. Scathing? Maybe. Over the line? Probably. How quick would someone be branded a racist if they tried that at this year's dinner? That may actually take balls.

    Balls.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt you guys' argument.

With the huge ratings numbers that Fox News draws it would most definitely be in someone's best interest to develop a satirical progressive douchebag...a Colbert alterego.

Why hasn't anyone done it? I personally don't think it would work. First, you'd need to find a very smart and witty comedian who leans way to the right and next, youd have to consider your audience's ability to comprehend satire. These are the same folks who watch Fox News.

Actually, if you begin to think of what guys like Limbaugh and OReilly do as an act then it is really quite funny.

The White House Correspondance dinner is held every year and there is always a roast of the President and his administration. There was nothing particularly ballsy or groundbreaking about Colbert's performance.

I compleeetly disagree...especially in the context of that time; cheap shots? Again, nope.

Didn't mean to? Jeez. What a weenie.

No kidding, every year? And thanks for reiterating my point that there was nothing particularly ballsy about his performance.
