Did the sisters at LL slide over the road yesterday? Saw something on the socials. Looked like they were probing for survivors. Shut down the road for a bit it said.

Yes but I do not know any details other than what I saw
Patrol was there by the end of the parking lot and the sister closest to OTR
At the base area I heard a patroller say there was a burial
Didn’t see a ambulance or SAR, didn’t seem like it was a major medical event when I drove by to leave
    Pass was shut down though

There is video of them doing a mass probe search. I don't think there are any doubts. It literally was right at the entrance to the lot.

No, I didn't mean "hopefully nobody was buried", I trust them that nobody was. I meant "I hope they were able to stop and talk to the boarder and, if appropriate, cite them for their behavior".

I'm sure he's on some dash cam and promptly hitched a ride up the pass with no gear to drop idiots.

If I left 5-10 min early, I would have missed the wreck at the bottom of Floyd hill.
Decided to turn back at the Hwy 6 exit and got stuck at the overpass top of the hill.
The people going up Hwy 40 were trying to get on the ramp to go back down on 70. Causing the stoppage.
    WTF [emoji51]!!!

It the weekend after "The Holidays" and before "MLK". The "I don't go up when is busy" crowd and STR landloards that use their places non-peak. Been this way for a while.

And no, not shit graybird. Skiing is and has been and will be pretty f'n good.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

I could have sworn it used to quiet way down after NYers to MLK. But guess not anymore.
The skiing did look great today. I just cannot deal with being in the car 4 hours to go 65 miles anymore. Enjoyed biking on a nice sunny day in Denver instead.

yuup. have tried convincing my denver friends to do it differently but they won't listen and I am done trying with that. sure the traffic got bad over the holidays this year but it also snowed a lot and there were likely wrecks which can happen any day of the week.

copper reported 6 and it snowed a decent amount through the day too. I went to the basin though for a couple hours in the morning and while they have reported less snow than copper the skiing was excellent. Was giggling at how good one of my fresh lines down the alley's was this morning. skiing is really fun.

You're confusing skiers and traffic. The ski areas are less busy but it slanted towards Front Rangers.

Graybird absolutely not. Drove over Berthoud around 12:30pm and it was gnarly. Typical empty left lane on the way up and crawling in an endless 15 mph red snake on the way down the other side. 70 EB was busy but moving, along with the usual dipshit moves and random slamming on the brakes for no apparent reason.

Kind of amazing how shitty it was on the pass and how nice and sunny it was in Idaho Springs.

We're on our way to Disney in FL. Hoping I can use some I 70 savvy to navigate the crowds. Also, pray for me.

Drove from Silverthorne to GWS this morning. Only traffic to speak of was at Copper. Apparently Copper skiers are so important that they can ride in the left lane as slow as they want until right before the fucking exit when they realize they need to get over to exit. Slam on their brakes, no turn signals, and swerve just in time to get through and cut off the rest of the morons. Good reminder why I don’t ski there much anymore.

After that it was smooth sailing, and surprisingly uncrowded to Vail. Dry roads beyond Avon.

There's a big problem in the mornings with traffic backed all the way up I70 with people trying to get in to park. I've heard of people waiting an hour to get into the lot. Not an issue for me since I'm coming from the south but I feel for them. Maybe if they parked people at both ends at once? Maybe if they paved and painted it and got rid of the parking crews? I don't know, but it's a real problem.

I am pretty sure they have even tried parking both alpine and far east at the same time and somehow even that doesn't work, idk what the deal is but they need to try something different. sure most people will try getting into alpine over far east but if enough people are sitting in traffic I would assume cars will start filing into far east. I hope to avoid going there on a weekend. Honestly I just ski there less and less as it is for a number of reasons but sometimes the basin just lacks in longer groomers, punishing bump runs (alpine) and random little leftover powder stashes so I still end up getting a pass there. I have contemplated going the epic route for that fix because copper just keeps getting more and more busy.

Somebody on the bus the other day told me they went past the parking lot (headed south) and made a u-turn. Then come in from the south the way I do, there's never a line. I guess it's not illegal?

Well maybe you could turn right onto that new road (born something?) and then turn around?
