Sometimes I get on I70 and just drive 45 in the left lane till someone passes me in the right, then I gun it, and block them with the next car in the right lane and slowly pass them. Then I'll put on my blinker like I'm going to get over, but I get over all slo-mo like. It's fucked up I know. But 20 years of battling that road, if I wasn't doing that, I'd be the other guy.
Given that you're not going to change these fools, you're not acting in your own best interest. How many gapers are out there who think they're Finnish rallaye champions? When they screw up because of your games and the road gets closed, whom are you going to blame for this?

Keystone? Nope, never heard of it.

(it's a little too far for an after-work thing from Boulder, and would require 2 pass purchases too)

    This!

It is the worst going up the hill in between Georgetown and silver plume. Stupid ass tourists in the left lane going 65 making me lose all my speed & momentum on that hill

Had some really awesome keystone powder nights last March, and it is totally doable from Boulder as long as it is one of the nights keystone is open till 8

define "doable", what's doable for one person isn't doable for another. Is mountain biking in Fruita doable as a day trip from Boulder? I'd say no, but some TGR stud would surely correct me and say it is, and technically they're correct, but I'd still say no. 3+ hour round trip for what could be 2 hours of skiing? While working a full time job and having a family at home? I though Keystone stayed open later than 8pm, that makes it even worse. Yes, it's "doable", but not worth it IMO, and definitely not worth it when I don't have an Epic Pass (and it's not a big enough draw to get one, but I hear Breckenridge is the most awesomest mountain ever, so maybe I should).

How viable do you guys think an occasional trip to Eldora is from Denver to avoid I70? It isn't a huge MTN but is on the RMSP+ pass. I had a good time when I went there a few years ago for a day trip from Denver. Or is Eldora swamped now because of being on the RMSP+?

I was joking, I would never recommend anyone ski Keystone, night or day/. However, their night skiing is better than anything outside Seattle or Vancouver IMHO. Don't think that I've been night skiing in over a decade though. It is weird that they only stay open till 8pm now.

Eldora parking lots fills up most weekends as is and if upslope is in the forecast, it’s a fucking zoo. Take 72 if feasible. A few short but sweet tree runs. It’s nothing great, but if 70 is fubar, it’s at least an option.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Back in NYC and tri-state area for a week. So far it's been a nice reminder of how good we have it out west.

Traffic on I70 on bad days is like a typical commute here. Took us 1:45 to get from JFK to midtown when we got here bc everything was so jammed, as an example. The fucking BQE is still under construction, I like it was 13 years ago when I left. The LIE is hell on earth.

I just did 2 weeks on the LIE after 20+ years. Holy shit is right. I also forgot just how massive and prevalent the potholes are everywhere. I think I'd be dead in a week on my motorcycle. And thank god for GPS. It's such a dense place. I can't imagine trying to find anything back there anymore with a phone book, map, and an address while navigating that traffic. It's like you are in rally mode 100% of the time.

It did bring back a lot of muscle memory, but damn, it's tiring.

sure NYC traffic is hell and its a lot better here, but the fact that folks are talking about our mountain corridor traffic in the same breath as one of the most overpopulated gridlocked metropolitan areas in the country does say alot.

It is exhausting. It is a constant battle with constant honking and people yelling. I70 is obviously bad but there's a huge gap between weekend traffic there and everyday traffic here in NYC. Just navigating cross town traffic (channeling Jimi) is like driving through a blizzard at the tunnel.

And talk about an aging infrastructure.

I came to a similar conclusion last time I was stuck on 70. I think they should only rent 4wd or AWD cars (with decent tires, duh). It certainly wouldn't solve the problem, but could make a huge impact during storms. Friday nights and Sunday mornings suck now, too. Those of us with M-F jobs are SOL.

I'm still not convinced the 3rd lane is going to do much. There will be so little shoulder in spots that it could easily revert to 2 lanes when there's snow. I see alot of people that are too scared to pass a semi for some reason.

The third lane if I70 will be a toll lane. Only $$ will determine its effectiveness

Westbound closed today and snows wouldn't have had an effect.

I can't last more than 3 days in NY. Yeah, the muscle memory (and mental radar) come back, but I want to go postal.

I grew up there, and barely enjoy visiting. And yes, LGA is a shithole, though I do like landing there (I like the water approach).

LGA is bad, but I maintain that PHX is the worst airport.

closed for jack-knifed semi just west of the tunnel on the descent. Was early morning. Wonder if melt>re-freeze might have caused slick spots or if this is just dumbass-ery.
