http://www.mtbproject.com/directory/166776/vermont this another site to look into as well I personally am adding all the legal trails in my area as time allows.
I'm starting to think about a weeklong summer road/camping trip with the better half and two dogs through Upstate NY/Northern New England. Biking will not be the primary focus, but I'm hoping to get out for a few rides on it.
She's a beginner and probably only up for an hour or two of riding on smooth easy trails, some singletrack is okay but she's really not very strong technically. Would be nice to get some views etc. so she can actually enjoy the experience. Basically looking to bitch rides with her. We'd like to bring the dogs out too, but we're fine living them in the car for a few hours as well. Ideally there'd be something a little more fun to rip for an hour or two after she's done. Thinking Kingdom (will leave dogs in the car), but I haven't really been tracking everything thats happening up there with burke etc. Any other suggestions?
Would also be nice to find some places where I could sneak out for an hour or two while she hangs out at the campsite. Prefer flow to tech.
I wear crocs for the style, not the comfort.
Fantastic weather on Sunday with surprisingly few mosquitos. Solo morning ride, followed by flat rail trail with the kids. Ice cream is always good motivation.
Some suggestions:
-Lowell-Dracut State Forest
-Russell Mill (Chelmsford) is similar, only like 8 miles with some doubling back but really fun trails with plenty of cool features
-Lynn Woods
-Bruce and Tom's
-Vietnam
-Willowdale (flowy and fast, kinda atypical for a lot of areas)
-Harold Parker
Way too many other places, but those will kinda give you an indication of what's around and the types of trails close to Boston. I don't know anything on the south shore, but Wompatuck seemed fun the one time I went there. I don't know NH/VT areas apart from the popular ones, never really make it up there as much as I should. Highland is worth a stop, and I really like the XC stuff that's been going in, perfect mix of flow and tech.
Feel free to reach out if you want, I work a 9-5 but generally ride 4 days a week and love showing what we have for trails.
Nice! Ice cream motivates me as well! Well, that and IPA's.
Nice ride yesterday in the new zone. Did some work and started a new line. Amazing what we have now on the seacoast of NH. So many little spots with a variety from techy, flowy, playground, new pumptrack, and rocky rooty shitshowy.
Absolute hero dirt in VT yesterday. Perfect and tacky, and someone has been up to some trail building cause there's a new booter that wasn't here a month ago. Will get a pic when I go again today.
Here she is, new booter. Didn't build myself.

Looks nice, where is that, SH?
Well THAT looks fun!!! Why can't we have trails like that last in MA?!?!
Random q - anyone hooked up with some trail orgs interested in building in Western NH? My dad is a chief selectman of a small town and they're looking to expand their recreational offerings to try to spur more visits to the area. Tons of town land to potentially develop.
The process is to hire someone for a design. One option is Sinuosity:Flowing Trails. Brooke has done designs for Killington, Shelburn, Northfield, and a bunck of Fellowship work. Another guy would be sustainable trail works. They do alot of the SMBC work, BlueBerry Lake They both build great trail and are both strong riders. Not sure how much Sustainable TW travels outside Vt, but I know Sinuosity just got back from there talking about design work. Once they have a design, put out a request for proposals to build. Nemba would be a good resource for a more volunteer based option.
By coincidence I was over on mtbr today and found a bunch on Sinuosity. The trails (especially orange) they did in Northfield looked sweet, really high quality.
Yea there was a good overshoot video on youtube that I can't seem find. More reflecting on my nostalgia, haven't ridden there since a couple years before they changed the name over to MCBP, pretty funny that I still had the ticket on my bike until last week.I'm sure I'll be out there at some point this summer, although you're probably a much better rider than I.
Excellent time riding Vietnam today. Definitely under gunned on the fully rigid 29er+, but was able to ride most things (just not that fast). Different challenges than riding out west, but no less fun. I think I will be fine here. Question, I have all day Wednesday to play and willing to drive 2hrs each way to check out a riding spot in Western MA, NH or VT. Need more xc riding. Thoughts?
You're about 2 hours from Nassahegan in CT which has tons of riding. (Spent last weekend checking it out for the first time and did only a tiny fraction of what's there) Some awesome trail building going on in that part of the state.
You're also only 1.5 to Bear Brook in NH which has a bunch of stuff.
I'm not familiar with much south.
