Putting boots on; buckles open or closed???

I've always been under the impression that you should always, independent of the boot, put boots on with the buckles open. I thought I read this somewhere (but can't find anything that actually says otherwise). One of my ski partners, who was complaining about how long it takes him to put his boots on, thinks it doesn't matter if the buckles are open or closed and will spend hrs in the lodge forcing his foot into a boot with closed buckles. I suggested that maybe he open up the boot and stop fucking around trying to put them on with the buckles closed, he got defensive about it, busted out his boot's manual and said he couldn't find anything that said it mattered whether the buckles were open or closed when you put them on…..

Just wanted to get the tgr opinion on this.

this is the primary reason people typically have boots that are too large.

I don't know about putting them on, but definitely cinched up tight walking through parking lots so they don't fly off and get run over or sumptin.

Closed. Opening the buckles wears them out faster. You should leave the plastic film on your goggles too.

    This.

Also, who would take the goggle film off? Then you'd need to go to the shop to get a replacement layer... unless you trust the stuff from amazon.

Neither of you are right. For a boot to fit, you have to preserve the critical buckle/shell interface by always keeping them buckled. But everybody knows the only way to get into the boot is from the side. So first, locate a good saber saw with a fine blade for plastic. Then cut around the outside of the boot at the boot board level, leaving a 2 inch connection - some say 3 inches is better - along the inside. Done. When you're ready to put them on, just flip up the shell, slide in, and lower the shell. Your binding will keep the shell together correctly.

Now go do it, and report back.

Bindings may hold it together, but I always like to put a little duct tape for a little extra safety. They have all these cool new colors which makes it less ghetto. Personally, I go for the leopard print.

Always closed. Same for when you take the liners out

They shouldn't take hours in the lodge if you make sure to put them on the right feet. Buckles to the inside!!!
