alright thanks everyone, I managed to get the mounted and skied some steep stuff this morning without dying. I still can't figure out how I'm supposed to put the brakes on, but I only need them for the resort so I guess I got some time to figure it out. I'm not completely convinced that these ski all that different from my race bindings... need some more testing I suppose!

Does anybody have a single toe available? I lent my skis to a buddy for his kid to use and he broke one of the toes. My buddy is offering to buy me new bindings altogether but I don’t feel great about that. Black diamond says they don’t have one and fritschi says to talk to BD.

sorry - no extra toes here sadly.
A question though -> does the lack of the broken wing on one side have any functional effect when stepping in?
The reason I ask is that some tech toes does not have any such guides to help the step in process, yet step in work just fine. Yeah, I understand that getting a complete binding back is way superior to getting one that is partially broken, but is the functional effect large enough to warrant a full on replacement?
Just to be clear, I am not trying to suggest that you should not receive some form of compensation from your friend - I am just curious to know how the step in process is affected by the loss of one of the wingsI run a couple of Vipec and Tectons on my touring skis, so it would be good to know.
Awesome!

If he doesnt I definitely do have two new toe pieces.

Black Diamond told me black and evo do not play together toe/heel
“ This is because Fritschi doesn't support mixing and matching toes and heels. ”. From an email with Black Diamond. I can not offer the reason why
The evo heel had some changes, most noticeable to me was how the din was set. Lou broke it down at wild snow.
Oh well. I’m not afraid.

unless the delta is extremely weird it’s hard to imagine how it could matter... plenty of us mix and match tech toes/heels all the time
the height from the topsheet to the top of the "stomp pad" area and from the topsheet to the top of the pins (heel) is identical on my Blacks (no brakes plastic thingy on) and Evos (brakes) - 27mm and 54mm or so respectively. Both heel measurements - forgot to measure the toes.
Yeah, the design of the heel is quite a bit different in how the internals work - but not in how the system works as a whole. I can't really understand how the changed internals would affect what toes one could use with the old/new heels.
I would not be afraid of mixing and matching different generation Vipecs or Tectons. That is - I already am.
They sent on this attachment which I only glanced at at the time as it seemed related to how to set up the binding and not what the issue was. I was asking because my toes were sliding when skinning even locked. BD said they could not sell evo toes to go with black heels. Wish I had more detailed answer, just passing along.

BD sent me Evo toepieces to replace Black toepieces last winter....
CJ, I gave away my last Vipec toe-piece, but I do have a Tecton invaginator toe-piece (v1.0) - you want? PM your address. I think it's the same mount pattern and functionally identical to Vipec, but not 100% sure on that.
sproing!
IIRC they were replacing the OG toes with Evos a couple years ago

Just going over my skis for the upcoming winter and realized that one of the nuts is missing on my Vipec black toe piece. Would anyone happen to have one they don't need that I can use please ? Without the nut, the pin is somewhat loose with just the spring pin holding it in place. I contacted BD but not response (guessing they are busy with the Pieps deal).
I actually have one of these but won't be able to get it for a couple of weeks, if BD doesn't get back to you by then PM me.
BD advised me to put locktite on the new one to keep it from coming off.

Thanks and will do. So far BD's response time is pretty brutal likely due to Pieps funneling everyone into BD's warranty claim process.
