Colorado has been really good this year. We have had lots of snow in most areas.

I would suggest in this order:

1-Beaver Creek
2-Vail
3- WP

All of those resorts are within 2 hours 15 minutes of denver. Snow has been really nice this year many areas are approaching 200 inches of snowfall this season

Everyone hates on Colorado but it is a much better quality of life living here vs utah or montana.

I'll throw another vote in for WP, skiing really well this year, no BIG storms but building a good base on the reg. south is short on snow so far but that can change.

Copper Mountain would also be a very good choice and you can get a free lift ticket when you fill up with at least 10 gallons of gas at participating Shell stations. Copper has been doing well with snowfall this season.

Why near Denver? I would assume you'll fly in there but do you have enough time to get out of Summit/Grand/Eagle County? If not WP, A Basin, Copper, Loveland and if you can swing a day at Vail or BC. If you have time to get out a bit Steamboat and Monarch along with all the areas in SWCO, which are quite a bit less crowded.

Depends on what you consider important to your quality of life but we'll just agree to disagree. I've never had a bad day skiing at any of the Summit/Grand/Eagle County area except Keystone. Fuck that place.

I'd say WP. Meets your criteria pretty well, but right now, I don't think you could pick a bad mountain to visit in N or Central CO.

Winter Park is good, but be prepared for crowds.
Avalanche conditions are very touchy, so stay in-bounds.
Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Steamboat, ... all are having a great year.
Avoid I-70 from 2PM-8PM, and be on the road well before 7 AM.

Another vote for WP based on your list, but if the budget can tolerate it, consider Copper. Skiing really well right now. Greens and blues on the frontside are soft and the backside's getting better.

And I actually liked Snowshoe for what it is. Skied it years ago with an EC friend and he described it thusly: It's like insurance: It sucks that you need it but you're glad it's there when you do.

Ya man, WP is what you're asking for. Like anywhere a 100ish miles from Denver it gets busy on the weekends, but very quite during the mid week. Its got some great trees and mellow enough for the lady.

Me? I like snowshoe. If you can ski Cupp Run, you can ski anywhere on the planet, man.

For realz, I haven't skied snowshoe since the 80s. If I need a fix for snow, I just go to Canaan Valley and ski some backcountry. Then there's Ski Liberty. I have been the best skier there since '93 (and I don't even ski there (except with the next generation of Apes)...they just put a plaque up in the lodge with my name just so people stop paging me for a ski-off).

Where are you staying (guessing that's the Denver thing)?

Basically, if you are thinking budget, you have to go where you can get cheap tickets. What that means is passholder discounts and the shell deal. If you can't figure that out, you deserve to pay full price.
