Big Sky TR and quick Bro Review

Just got back from Big Sky and it rocked! Skied Wednesday, Thursday, didn't make it out Friday (St. Patty's Day was rough), and skied Saturday. Sorry no pics, I don't own a camera.

Wednesday we woke up to find 6 inches of fresh. I made a tram lap down Lenin and a couple bowl runs. The best snow was the short slot through Rice Bowl. I was pretty much the only person skiing it so I laped that about 8 times.

Thursday I woke up to another 8 inches but it snowed off and on all day. The visibility was horrible so I stayed away from the peak and headed over to the Lone Moose triple where there were about 3 other people skiing so fresh tracks all day again.

Friday morning was perfectly blue-bird with another 6 inches falling over night. One big problem however, we started partying with the Crazy Austrians around 4:30 the day before (St. Patty's Day) and quit around 1:00 in the morning. I think I crawled out of bed around 1:00 in the afternoon. At 3:00 I call the front desk and find out that my Bro's have finally arrived. They were supposed to arrive the previous Monday, but DHL sucked it up bad, but at least they arrived. I call up a few shops and find one that says they can get the Bro's mounted up with my Looks by 8:00 that night. I haul ass down to the shop with the Bro's still in their box. The tech and I open the box and I tell him they probably need to be sharpened and for sure waxed. He runs his hand along the edge and cuts himself kind of bad and says, "there's no way I'm messing with sharpening these edges". I picked up the Bro's at 7:30 and fondle them the rest of the evening.

Saturday I wake up to find 7 inches for a storm total of over 2 feet. I head straight up to the tram but find myself waiting in line for 45 minutes. I finally make it up to the top and over to Lenin. To my surprise everyone who beat me up to the peak had been skiing the face or Marx. Lenin had 2 1/2 feet of untracked powder. The Bro's begin their first decent. These things are unreal and were definitely worth the wait! I have been skiing Stormrider DP's for the past couple years and the Bro's were an awesome change. They had much better float and their weight with bindings seems only slightly heavier than the DP's without bindings. They turned like butter in the pow and just like everyone seems to be saying, they rock! I decided to pass up the tram after that wait and made laps in the Bowl letting the Bro's enjoy the 2 feet of powder the Bowl had to offer. All in all, the Bro's were a great change from the DP's in that they are lighter, less work, and a lot better float. The DP's are obvioulsy a little better on the packed powder cruisers because they are so damp, but I have no complaints what so ever. The doorman at the hotel thought they were the coolest skis he had ever seen and asked all kinds of questions about them. One other thing that I loved was that I creamed a couple rocks in the bowl that I thought for sure would have banged up my bases. The Bro's walked away with barely a scratch!

where in the hell in Big Sky did you go to party until 1am with crazy austrians? I thought that town shut down with the hill at 4pm.

how is coverage at Big Sky overall? I should be there next week.

Well, having lived there for a winter, I can say that just isn't true. It's not quite the same scene as most places, but it certainly isn't completely dead.

Seems like I always end up at the challenger chair but its rocky over there- non-stop laps are nice long thigh burners though with shady snow stashes in the trees. Glad to hear you got some of that storm cycle... it was goood
_and cheers to more Bros on the hill making more happy skiers

Great TR Catsros. Glad to see you get some. You reminded me why I love Big Sky so much. It's friggin empty. It may be the best big mountain on a powder day due to total lack of crowds (except tram line) so you get REAL fresh tracks all day down some great terrain. No need to fight all the locals and alpha males (and females) to get to the goods. There just aren't enough locals to fill the place up.

BB, so what else besides Milkies is there? I imagine Bucks T-4 shuts down fairly early...and Dante's even before then...
