There's an adjustment video on G3's site which says that after making contact back it out and then back in to make sure where the contact point occurs.

(Edit: just noticed you stated this later.)

I just posted my mounting experiences over on Lou Dawson's Wildsnow blog. Since I'm a new forum member (long time lurker), I can't post URL's yet, but search on "G3 ION Binding Template and Screw Layout" and the post will pop up for you.
Here's the link for G3 ION Binding Template and Screw Layout.

On the stainless steel insert front, I found the Binding Freedom 14mm Smallheads worked for the toes and the 10mm Lowheads were just shy of meeting the minimum 4mm depth. I cut down 16mm Lowheads to 12mm which appears to be the sweet spot. Confirmation by others would be good. (I'll repost this on the BF thread).

Got out on mine for the first time this weekend. 35-45cm of fresh over an unbreakable crust. Bindings were great, no worries on the way down. Hit the crust hard a few times on compressions with no issues, skied hard, some good drops and airs. First time on pin bindings and love them. The way up was night and day as well.

That's sick. I might be buying a pair of these next season if no major reliability issues set in. Keep beating on them for me.

Looking for a shop in the SLC area with the jig ... called around to the logical places and no luck... anyone know who's got a jig?

Bushbiker, may not be feasible, but perhaps buy a Jigarex with ION plates?

Thought from recent ION use: I have no idea how to describe it, but I wonder if the the plastic pieces that lock the heel piece in tour mode will wear over time so it no longer locks, or unlocks easily? Hope not,I have three pairs of these things in the house now.

Black Diamond store in SLC has their jig. They got it yesterday. They are mounting mine.
Wasatch Touring said last week they had one coming as well, probably got theirs yesterday as well.

Thanks for the help guys - got them mounted up today at the DPS salon. I should get a bunch of time on them over the next few weeks and I'll report back thoughts from the field

No prereleasing in some shitty icy moguls recently.

Looking fwd to some touring after Wedn storm. Agree with the comments about the positive feeling of the toe pins even when in ski mode. Much different than dynafit.

Above comments: yes, I am a little over-exposed to the fate of the ION.

One clear benefit of the ION is that they are so much easier and faster to step into than any Dynafit I've used.

If I searched would I find any info on mounting IONs over Vertical or Radical drill patterns?

Edit: looks like I'll have to move my ION mount back 1cm from old holes and see what I end up wrt new boot center v.s. old boot center.

One of my toepieces was working the mount screws a bit loose...surprising, since I'm a fkn Jedi master when it comes to bomber mounts. Upon closer inspection, that black plastic baseplate was molded incorrectly one one of my bindings--the two rear holes didn't quite line up with the aluminum holes. This meant there was a gap between the aluminum frame and the plastic baseplate. Dremeling out those holes appears to have fixed the issue.

Hope G3 pays attention to this quality control issue.

Has anyone weighed a pair without the brakes? Wondering how they compare to Speed Radicals

Exactly the same thing for me, though not sure of the cause. I found that I could tighten the screws a bit more and did so, which surprised me because I was pretty sure I got them tight first time round.

I didn't have any screws work loose but when I mounted them I noticed on one toe that the metal wasn't seating in the base. I took the screws out and fit the pieces together and gave it another go and it mated fine. I checked the screws after each of the first two days and they were fine.

I think it's a pretty tight fit and if it's not all lined up perfectly it takes a little persuasion to get the pieces seated and the base plate flat on the ski.

G3 does recommend epoxy for a more secure mount.

I guess it would be more secure but don't really see why it would be necessary. I'm happy using your glue unless I'm worried about the core.
