Any of you guys ever met a Korean war vet? Not as many of them as WWII and few want to recall their time wasted in hellish terror. That was the most fucked up "war" in our history. Those guys had a worse homecoming than the guys from Nam. I worked with one. Walked up behind him to ask a question. Next thing I knew I was backed against a wall with his hands on my throat. "Sorry" he said. "Don't ever approach me from my back without a warning." Nice guy too. They have demons that you have no fucking idea about.

I've known a couple, and those guys saw the worst that life has to offer, the fighting there was on a mid evil level. It may not be as safe, or smart as re visiting Omaha Beach, or Vietnam, but I can understand why he would go back before he died.

And remember, we sent him there in the first place. Dare I say we owe Grandpa a little something?

[QUOTE=wooley12;4118797]Any of you guys ever met a Korean war vet? QUOTE]

met a few but knew one real well when living in MO. He was my neighbor and had some land the whole neighborhood used as "park" land where the kids would play and pick up foot ball game, Frisbee, etc.. up in age so I helped the mowing and clean up. Also helped out with chores around his shop as he was limited in mobility so we chatted quite a bit. His stories would scare the shit out of me, Chinese by the 1,000s just marching up the hill non stop to over run them, hand to hand, etc... trapped once for 6 days behind lines but did not say much on that... just drifted off in thought and I knew not to disturb.

also had exact same scenario as wooley where I did not make noise as I came into his shop, about had a hammer in my skull, thank god he lost a few steps in his age or I would be a dead man.

too him, all Asians were "fucking shits"

My Dad is a Korean War vet and still refuses to talk about. He'll only say it was horrifying.

I wasn't being sarcastic. State has a whole division for this kind of shit. Problem is we have very limited relations with the DPRK and just about no pull.

Well that's a nice generalization. My father in law served in Korea. Nice guy. He went, he fought for the guys he was with, just like most warriors do, when it was over he came home and started a family, opened a welding shop, became a project manager for a manufacturing company, had a shitload of grandkids, went fishing and hunting, played too much softball, drove minivans, and kept his lawn really, really nice in the summer. No demons, unless overfertilizing is caused by demons.

War is shitty, but everybody reacts differently, and every war is shitty.

Can't Barry just go bow to Kim Jong-Uno. He's really good at that.

Is it is funny ( or sad) that you think your own self described generic american dream story is somehow less unique than short fuse Mott's?

    Damn, dude.

I guess I was implying, that within your outlined problem, lies my implied inactivity/inaction. We have nothing for him. Maybe someone on our team inside, suggesting at the very least, not to execute, but that is it IMO.

the Koreans I've known don't give a fuck about it, and they all have relatives in the north. maybe it's denial, or maybe their latest generation is even more insolent than our own?
