KQ, this recipe was a huge winner. Everyone really liked it. I hope you guys all had a great Turkey Day as it was a great one at Casa L2S.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

That is an amazing bird, no? It's not one you can get skin off of because of the smoke but man-oh-man is the flavor of the meat incredible. This is the second year I've done it. I got the recipe from a GF who swore by it for years. It took me a while to give it a try but I'm glad I finally did. Not sure if I mentioned this ..... you can still make gravy if you use a disposable roaster under the bird (I used a Weber rack too). Remove the roaster about 2/3 of the way through BEFORE you start to glaze the turkey and you'll have good drippings.

Hope everyone had a great holiday now comes the rush up to FESTIVUS!

I hesitate to bring this thread up because it feels as if T-day doesn't exist in the US anymore - it's Halloween then straight to Xmas.

That said I've got my shopping done and am looking forward to my Barbecued turkey next Thursday.

Sitting around in pajamas with the fire on, with my girls who are playing PlayStation, and my dogs on either side of me on the couch, that’s the Thanksgiving family stoke I’m grateful for.

Hope you all have an enjoyable Thanksgiving as well.

    Good looking food y'all

SFB was nice enough to invite us over

Him and the Mrs are seriously good cooks

Too bad our grom had a nuclear meltdown, far beyond anything we've ever seen. Like scary bad. Seriously worryingly bad.

Ended up taking him to the ER and eating leftovers (which SFB and wife sent us home with) at 9pm

All's well that ends well I guess

    Thanksgiving Stoke Thread

Two kids are getting over a cold, but my wife woke before daylight deep into the same cold. Our plans were to make some dessert pies this morning and take them to a large family gathering. Instead, oldest son (not sick) and I (also not sick, yet) busted out: smoked turkey from a thigh that was bought for the weekend; stuffing from a loaf of bread, CSA veggies, herbs in front of the house, and chicken stock; garlic mashed potatoes from our csa produce, cranberry stuff (from cans); salad from our csa bounty; pumpkin pie from scratch; and apple gillette. It was a fun scramble. Definitely not how he thought he’d be spending his day when he woke up at noon.

Wheat originated in the Fertile Crescent of Mesopotamia. I am unaware of any wheat cultivation in the Western Hemisphere prior to the Euro invasion

respectfully TBS, I also understood your earlier post to mean the wheat flour, garlic, and onions to be imported ingredients of your amazing meal.

I am no foodie, nor much of a student of ' Early American' history, so I don't understand your disclaimer -

    Your meal looks amazing !

I took TBS to mean ingredients indigenous to the Americas. Wheat (European corn), garlic and the common table onions are not indigenous. American corn (maize) was the domesticated and cultivated grass of choice here. Amazing how many nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, chillies, tobacco) are taken for granted in Eurasian cuisine and culture but originated in the Americas.
Was at a conference and a presentation on preserving biodiversity in Columbia was being made. At one point a member of the audience asked what was being done to save coffee - the presenter chuckled and reminded us that coffee was not indigenous to Columbia or the Americas.

    Happy US Thanksgiving!
