Securing skis in a pick-up bed without a locking topper.

Does anybody have a decent way to secure skis in the back of a pick-up bed without a topper? I do not want a topper because I want the ability to load a sled in the back, but when I want to a have beer after resort skiing, I do not want to be forced to put my skis in the cab. I have thought about building a platform to throw the skis underneath, but that is only as secure as someone not lifting it up. Any ideas are much appreciated.

Drill Holes in tips.....feed through chain and add lock.

I have a platform in the back of my truck that's strapped down from underneath, the only way you could get at the skis is by unscrewing the plywood off the top. plus you can park your sled on top! this only works if your tailgate locks obviously.

i just throw em in the cab. Or in the snow in the bed if it's been dumping. Might could throw them underneath too, pretty dark there after dark...
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun

cable through the brakes and through the tie downs in the bed. Not going to stop someone with a bolt cutter or a screw driver to remove the brake but will stop a quick snatch.

Put the skis together and wrap a chain around them between the bindings. Them lock the whole shebang to the bed of your truck. You must not be a redneck

I usually ski this for fishing gear, but I like the idea for skis.

Like C.O. said, large diameter PVC pipe bolted to the sides above the wheel wells. Leaves room in the middle for the sled. Close / lock the tailgate to secure skis (only works when sled isn't in the bed though).

    This was my first thought.

    Heres what I do.
Does your pickup tailgate lock already? No? If not get a lock for the tailgate. These are super simple to install for a tacoma, and on mine (07) it even wires up to the locks so it unlocks with the fob.

Now you don't need a hard cover, any soft bed cover will work. These: http://www.agricover.com/ For example roll out of the way for your sled, but they also can't open without having the tailgate open. Sure someone could cut through to get your skis but it's 95% secure.

TLDR: Rollup tonneau cover + locking tailgate

Cab here as well. But have a 4 door truck.

In the snow? "I want to a have beer after resort skiing"....may be not the best idea ever

thump/bump..stop the rig. "Oh fook, fogot about the damn skis"....

What about bolting a locking roof rack to the floor of the bed? You'd only need one and you could probably get it close enough to the cab to not get in the way of your sled.
