Would you notice if one ski's tip was bent?

Volkl Mantras. Bend starts 12 inches from the tip, reaches about 1.4" taller than the other ski's tip. Almost looks like someone home-rockered them, except too excessively for something this width, and only on one ski. The question is...would you notice?

I'm already fucked on this one...this thread is just to rant and prove a point. Fairly cheap (~$60) mistake, but annoying nonetheless. I didn't notice when individually waving the skis around in the parking lot, but it's blatantly obvious when I got home and put them on the bench.

Always best to put them base to base and sight down the edges, both sides. You can see even subtle bends that have been bent back. Sorry man. And yes you will notice. They'll turn awesome one direction.

1.4 inches taller? I think that would be noticeable.

Been there. Bashed a bump, bent the ski in a manner similar to that which you describe and noticed it within 10 turns.

But it skied better right? After all, isn't all early rise great?

I once slammed a Volkl "camber" ski into a tree, instant early rise rocker! The wack'ed ski skied completely fucked up afterwards. Probably because nothing cracked or delaminated combined with my leaving out that i slammed it into a tree trunk, the ski shop got me new warranty replacement skis from Volkl and in the upcoming year's color version too.

If they're $60 skis, I'd rocker the other one. Or you could try to bend the bent one back. I did that successfully on a pair of Volkl race skis. Find something to wedge the tip into (I used a cast iron radiator at my parents' house, but the thing on a dumpster the garbage truck hooks into would probably work as well) and give er.

Yep. My first pair of Explosivs arrived with one bent. After failing to straighten it I just rockered the other one and they ski amazingly well. A wooden staircase works well. Bend slowly and gradually, and check against the other one.

I voted no, because I have skied on bent ski and not noticed until I checked them. Still, I buy most of my skis in parking lots and always check before I pay.

The old Volants had an industry leading "progressive" rocker. The more you skied them, the more they lost their camber and rockered.

Good thing about metal is you can bend it back the other way. After clamping it down and jumping on it a few times, I'm back in business. As detrusor predicted, you can see where the bend was if you look close because my new radius and/or location weren't perfect, but now we're talking about a mm rather than an inch+. Hopefully good enough that I won't notice anymore.

Haha. This same thing almost exactly happened to me with a pair of volkl auras (the mantra's sister ski), and it really wasn't too bad after I bent it back... good luck!!
