    Car Stereo/Electronics ?Malfunctioning Amplifier?

On my way to work today my subwoofer started going crazy every time I went over a bump. I'd get a max volume burst of low bass out of it on every hard bump. I had to pull over and pull the rca cables out of it to stop it.

It's still powered up but after pulling the signal cables it stopped doing it. Problem with cables or with the input jack on the amp, or? Any idea how much an elctronics place might charge to fix it? It's an older MTX, have had it probably 10-12 years.

Start troubleshooting by using your phone/mp3 player/walkman as a source. Connect it short cables and leave it in the trunk. Go for a drive.

Zeds dead might just be too much on 10yr old subs

    Excellent 1st. Step.
Sounds like a remote wire groundout at first blush, or compromised female RCA cable at either the amp end or HU end, but I have no way to know that for sure.
Most MTX amps are built like little tanks, but shit happens.
As in the other thread, what is your ground path like? Try removing where your grounds are affixed, grinding off any paint/corrosion, and reattaching.
This is just plain a good thing to do regardless of your current problem...

    Haha....

Thanks for the suggestions. Never thought to use my phone as a signal source. Been too busy to try it, but will definitely give it a shot.
