Yeah. I’m a sucker for heist films and I love Point Break, so the first one is basically a perfect movie for me.

Did I hear somewhere that The Rock and Statham hate each other so much they were never together for any part of the filming of Hobbs and Shaw?

I never heard any rumblings about The Rock and Statham…
But there was plenty of online rumblings about Diesel and Dwayne butting heads…I always assumed that’s why they did the spin-off.

I felt the last film suffered horribly from the absence of The Rock. That and the fact that everyone involved seemed to be taking the ludicrous story too seriously…

I saw Fast X this afternoon. It is the first Fast and Furious franchise movie I've seen in the theater as I've never been a big fan. I have to say it was an entertaining movie. I did shake my head multiple times as it was tough to suspend my disbelief, but I still had fun and thought Jason Momoa was a good villain. I wasn't expecting that type of ending as the only thing I knew about the movie was the trailer.

Walking out of the theater with my friend, who is a fan of the franchise, I said this feels like the MCU only with cars as the good guys really do not die.

Just saw this as well. The whole franchise is ready to be put to bed. It’s all just a rehash of the same people and same stories as 8&9, even with the forced nostalgia rammed down your throat every five minutes. The worst thing about it is that I didn’t even leave the theater feeling like I wanted to break a bunch of traffic laws. I’m pretty sure I was on the hook for felony speeding on the way home from the first four or five of them. I left this one just bored.

It really is a comic book movie now where they just pretend that these are all non-super people. They use Nos like they use Vibranium. Whenever they need to get out of a sticky situation, just hit it with Nos. That’ll solve it!

The only bright spot was Jason Mamoa. He was like a big, evil Pedro Pascal and really carried the whole show.

Well, we still have F11 (aka FX pt 2 aka “the finale”) to go, then innumerable spin-offs.
So there’s gonna be Fast & Furious clogging up the cineplexes for quite some time going forward…

As long as they keep making bank (I believe they are HUGE throughout the Asian market) they will keep churning ‘em out.

I know after the first one, when I was in my early 20's, I certainly pushed my Ford Taurus pretty hard on the way home. Good thing I didn't have a NoS injection system!

A quasi upside is that Galaxy Theaters sent me a free ticket for my b-day. It expires June 27, so I either use it for this, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts or The Flash…none of which I am terribly excited about, but they’re the only new films opening before the expiration date of the freebie ticket…

Back on 5/26 I attempted to catch Hypnotic, but left the house late and got to the last screening after it had already started.
So I opted to see Fast X instead (ended up having a “private” screening, plus the cashier gave me the Senior Discount—a whopping Curtis Jackson! I still don’t know whether to be insulted that he thinks I look 65 or if he’s just doing it to be cool—this isn’t the first time dude has given me the discount).

Anyway, Fast X is marginally better than F9. Marginally.
It’s terribly disjointed and ends up being 4 different storylines that make it feel like 4 different films.
John Cena and Jason Momoa seem to be the only two actors who got the memo and understood the assignment, although the latter does some “Interpol’s Most Wanted cyber terrorist hacker level”-styled queer coding that felt terribly wrong/horribly outdated in this age of wokeness.
Luda, Tyrese, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang have great chemistry, but are sadly (and stupidly) pushed into the background.
Vin D, Michelle Rodri, Charlize T, and Brie (Larson) all spend the film delivering wooden lines, scowling, and seeming to take everything too seriously (I have seen more than a few critics commend these actors for embracing the camp of the whole thing, but I don’t see it/feel it one bit).
And while I have the most rudimentary grasp of physics, many of the action sequences appear beyond possible and if any of the characters had performed them in real life they would have all died multiple times before the film even hit the 30-minute mark. Also, I’m still trying to figure out how Dom's Charger keeps surviving all the vehicular carnage they thrust upon it (that and how it miraculously appears in every city on every continent the crew visits; I have my limits when it comes to suspension of disbelief, dammit!!!).
The flow and pacing is cockeyed and director Louis Leterrier is, well, kind of a generic director, regurgitating the look and feel of the previous films without giving us anything visually new or striking. I know it would never happen, but I’d be keen to see Guy Ritchie give it a go (or the guy who did SISU or James Gunn or Neveldine & Taylor or…).
While I mentioned that the film is disjointed and follows several different storylines, this actually saves the film from becoming an excessively mind-numbing action film: just when one storyline begins to become tedious or Vin’s scowl starts to grate, the film shift s to another segment; sure, it’s jarring and ultimately lazy filmmaking, but at least it kind of keeps things moving.
Worst part is that the damn thing ends with multiple cliffhangers so now I gotta see FAST X 2!
Anyway, in short, I was entertained and frustrated in equal measure, but never felt completely insulted in regards to my intelligence like I did with F9.

I could never get over the weird pacing in Fast X where they whiplash you from over-the-top action to super gushy sentimentality (Dom is the best father in the world apparently). It's also basically a super hero franchise where they just don't mention that these people have super powers. I may just wait til part 2 comes out for rent on streaming at this point. I'm invested to the point where I want to see the end of it, but can't justify spending three hours at the theater.

Can we just get a nice, tight, 90 minute action film again? I got shit to do.
