2005 Subaru Outback XT (manual transmission)

Replacing the car--love it, but it's a little too small for us now. This car is beat--I have no idea what it's actually worth, but they don't make the turbo and/or XT anymore. I think a bearing is shot (very loud, doesn't seem to affect ride/mileage), driver's window motor is broken (won't open), CD player broken (radio works, 6 CD's trapped inside I'll have to get), probably needs new struts and brakes soon, all body panels have at least minor scratches/dents, rear bumper is barely attached and small crack in one brake light covering (from the same incident with idiot NYC snowplow/sanitation driver). Could definitely use a little detailing if you have a problem with a messy interior.
Has new tie rods, clutch, transmission (replaced six months ago), lower control arm bushings, new front wiper motor, new battery (3 months), timing belt and water pump replaced between 100 and 110k, oil has been replaced regularly with Mobil One, Subaru mechanic in NH pronounced the car in 'good shape' except for the body work. 140k miles. Fuel lid tends to catch so it's tricky to open sometimes. 25-26 mpg highway at 75 mph.
If a mag is interested I'll sell it to you--can take pictures at some point, but she's kind of like the Millenium Falcon--not much to look at, but she's got it where it counts.
Magic bumper stickers at no additional cost (and maybe snow tires if I can't use them on the next vehicle).
Probably letting this thing go by the end of July. If not you then possibly K A R S kars for kids or something. Last vehicle I just removed the plates and abandoned in a lot in Queens, so trying for something more sensible this time...

Dex - find a mag coming west to drive it out and I'll swap you a pair of skis for it.
I remember your last car. That nyc street parking must be brutal.

What is a price window on this that you have in mind? Sounds like a fun little project.

As for Splat, I'll drive it cross country to you if you pay for me to get back east somehow.

I have no idea about price. As I told another mag, I'd go below 'fair' price for the right buyer (if it's a mag who would continue to use it for ski stuff that would be a positive in my mind).

I guess I assumed that even in its somewhat poor condition it would still be worth more than a pair of skis (sorry, Splat).

At the least if someone else has an Outback XT that they want to maintain this would be a good parts car.

edit: OK, I figured I'd take a look, and low end KBB value is $9400, which given my car's state is still high (people do seem to really like this car--as I do--if you want to see: http://www.kbb.com/subaru/outback/2005-subaru-outback/). So I'd say maybe $5k to start? Like I said, I really haven't thought much about what it's worth or what I'd want for it. I just know that within the next few weeks we're almost definitely going to have a different car, and I'm not going to be finding two parking spaces around here (or paying to insure two cars).

Double edit: screwed up with KBB online. Low end is actually around $7k, so maybe start with $4k...

Aww shoot. This is the Wagon? With a 5 speed? In NH too?

    Shit. Um.

I want this. I need to find a way to make it work. I gave my younger sister my 99 Legacy GT wagon when I bought my WRX, which she totaled, then I had to trade the WRX back in because I couldn't afford it.

Not to write some long sob story, but I miss a turbo Subaru in my life. Guns, skis, Cannondale... Let me know what you want for it (PS, your PM's are full.)

Also tentatively in line. Starting to look for a vehicle to live in/road trip with the girlfor a couple months. This sounds so very perfect

Cleared up some inbox room, sorry. Will email shortly. Out of the country for a week starting tomorrow, but should have generally reliable interwebs.

i have a 2009 xt and looked at a lot of 05's-07's (in nyc also) and at least here, nice ones with half the miles were going for around 12-13k and down from there. these are great cars- its a good deal. worth fixing up. good luck with the sale.

Headed out of the country for a week tomorrow, so probably a bit of a delay in getting back to people. Those who asked for pics, I didn't have time today and tried to do it (after parking by JFK in Sheepshead Bay) tonight but my crappy flash doesn't do the trick. Will update all and have pics sometime next week.

For now, imagine this car with the shit kicked out of it and you'll have an idea of what it looks like:
