Interesting. I’ve read that the older Chubb produced by Volant (US made) skied a lot better than the later produced Chubb once Atomic took over. No idea how to date those^ though.

Those are the Atomic built vintage. The original was fun in powder because it was really soft flexing but really damp and smooth and basically had no sidecut at 90mm underfoot. The newer version was stiffer and had a nice turn radius. It wasn't as good in powder, but was a good wide (at that time) all-mountain ski at 95mm underfoot.

the atomic volant machete was my first fat ski. loved 'em at first but they ultimately had me wanting an older pair of the metal-capped, zebra base chubbs.
the metal was more a visual on the atomics, and i never liked the workmanship
    - like the red plastic trim around the topsheet that peeled/broke off in no time.
and the topsheets were prone to delamming, the skis prone to bending. gave both away and got a pair of W9.1ff's that became my go-to ski for several years...along with 'sploders.

eta: those chubbs are probably ca 2001 or so? i got mine on closeout/still in plastic for cheap around 2004. yes, i went back in time with my next skis. i'm like that. still.

These were produced alongside the Machete FB for the '03-'04 season, so likely pressed sometime in the late-spring/summer/early-fall of '03.

Not skis/board, but certainly another good way to hurt yourself in an attempt to harness gravity

Sweet deal on some Praxis MVPs in Burlington. The seller seems legitimate, but said they wouldn't ship when I asked.
