I am getting scammed by a towing company and need help

long story short, I went to the titty bar tonight. The main parking lot was full as fuck, so I parked in a lot close by which had multiple cars parked in it. The lot I parked in was used by an office building during the day. There were no visible signs saying that I was parking in an illegal area.

I was in the titty bar for no more than 50 minutes before we came out to my car to smoke a bowl. When we got to the parking lot, we noticed that 6-7 cars, including mine, had been towed.

There was only one sign in the parking lot that said parking in the area was prohibited. That sign was ripped off of the post it was supposed to be on, and was lying on the ground, upside down. There was no way that I could have known I was parking in an illegal area. I took pictures to document the destroyed no parking sign.

I called the tow company and was told that it would cost 320 dollars to remove my car from the lot located all the way out in the ghetto at I-70 and I-25.


So my question is, Do I have any ways to fight this bullshit? I took pictures of the destroyed no parking sign.

I was thinking that maybe I could go to the tow company and pay the 320 dollars with my credit card, then immediately dispute the charge?

Any Ideas? I'm seriously fucked.

Dispute charges, or see if they'll take a check and then immediately after pulling off the lot, call your bank and do a stop payment?

Does the city have licensing of towing companies and a Towing law including the maximum rate a towing company can charge for a tow? If you get charged for each day of storage, best to probably retrieve your car ASAP as the charges will increase for each additional day they have the car.

Fucking scum of the earth IMO. In lived in Hoboken NJ for 15 years and it was the biggest scam in town. Tow companies were run by ex cops or cops families. If you tried to fight anything they would schedule court dates like 11:45 pm on a sunday night. Good luck. Not many options.

Check the state laws on what posting is required to allow a tow away. As an example, in California there are very specific requirements on signage. if not met, property owner can be liable for tow charges.
