They could have reinvented the tv but it looks like Samsung is winning that race.
They could have reinvented the laptop but all we got was a larger version of the iphone.
They could have reinvented a lot more but without an asshole like Jobs cracking the whip all we are left with is another ballcupping CEO ala John Sculley.

I don't feel that I have any battery life issues on my S3. If I leave my apt. at 8 in the morning with 100%, I have plenty of juice to get me through the day, and am usually around 30% around 9 P.M. on most days. I have a lot of apps set to push notifications. But I am rooted, running a custom 4.2.2 ROM and leave my wifi off all day since I have verizon unlimited 4G (which is faster than most wifi anyways).

Apple excels at places where it is an early mover or the first to put an organized ecosystem in place.

    Major successes -
Ipod - first major mp3 player with proper integration from store to player
Iphone - first good central app store, great UI
    Ipad - see iPhone

TV - all the major TV, Cable and Videogame companies have UI's for the TV, not to mention Roku and Tivo options. No early mover advantage, no foothold in content to drive business. They never got off the ground due to no sell in terms of how they made TV better.
Laptop - Too many different use cases.

Innovation will come from integration opportunities through software and cloud offerings, as hardware is increasingly commoditized. The only big hardware innovation I see right now are Google glass and the MS Surface (starting the cloud stuff, good laptop/tablet cross). I am a bit of a luddite these days though. The big thing everyone needs are better internet connections, as without a pipe to serve content through, you can't sell anything.

Google glass will be a bust, you will never see it in a rap video, it will never be cool and sell to the masses just look how fast 3d tv took off. nobody but nerds respect glasses, see every 3d glass, movie, tv launch since history began.

Apple watches would be cool because Dick Tracy wore one something like it.

MS Surface ? total bomb, check the sales numbers.

If you look at sales... they did reinvent the laptop. It's called an iPad.

noone's going to reinvent TV until the content rights balkanization shitshow settles out. Despite that they've sold a decent number of Apple TVs. Regarding the other "UIs", most of them suck balls.

oh, and definitely agree that google glassholes ain't going anywhere.

TV Hardware is being reinvented constantly, and especially now that the 3D fad is dying they can focus on some really cool shit, like 2k and 4k. Check out the new Samsung and Sony offerings.

Content-wise I just shot the CEO of Comcast announcing and demonstrating their X-1 Platform. It's fucking cool.

AppleTV is just for AppleFans - I find it meh. The Roku 3 (just updated version of the 2 XS) is less expensive, better quality, has expandable MicroSD Memory, and lets you watch your own content off a USB drive - I have a bunch of movies on a Thumb drive that looks FAR better than streaming it through Apple TV.

While I agree with the Roku being a bit nicer, less expensive, etc... Why I use AppleTV is because of the homogeneous system... it's all right there. All my music, my movies, then netflix, etc... only thing missing is Amazon streaming. Quality is good enough 95% of the time. If my wife and I didn't 'buy' into the system with multiple iPhones, an iPad, and a macbook then I'd probably set up with a Roku and figure something else out with the music end.

I'm excited to see the apple rip off of Pandora, as we use pandora a LOT....

Only thing I haven't figured out is if I'm streaming a movie from my laptop to the TV, what resolution/quality is it getting there by (over wifi from the laptop to the tv)....

Seriously don't get the Apple bashing. In my experience the ones who bitch the most about Apple are the first in line when a new product comes out.

Those are cool. Where's the content for them? Comcast started giving non text people X1 a year ago, it's still only in a few markets. Apple's sold >2x the number of Roku boxes out there in AppleTVs.

i love google products but they put out lots of duds and also change things for the sake of changing them and make them worse.. new google maps? so many annoying changes. changes to gmail with the stupid compose window? urgh. removing microsoft exchange support for gmail? it's the only way to get push notifications without using the gmail app. google is great but google is far from perfect, just like apple is great but far from perfect.

i had 3 android devices before switching to ios, and i had tons of problems.. low quality apps, apps crashing, apps not syncing updating, etc.. even shit like dropbox! sms messages not being recieved or people not recieving mine, never being able to get the latest OS releases. switched to ios and it was great. all apps were of higher quality and not buggy.. always get the latest OS releases, everything is just "smoother" and more refined, airplay is amazing if you have an apple tv.. and compared to my old samsung which felt like a plastic toy, the 4S feels really solid. and the audio quality is noticably better, the speakers in my androids always sucked. battery life sucks equally in both.

do i miss all the customization you can do with an android? i thought i would, but i miss none of it, it works well the way it is.. there's no need to fuck with it whereas with android there was clearly a need to change whatever launcher/skin came with the phone. i wouldn't mind widgets on ios and the control/command center or whatever they're calling it is something that should have been done years ago.. but thats it. i certainly don't want a 5" phablet. now every android fanboy thinks that anyone who perfers ios products is a braindead sheep.. not the case, they make a great product.. and there are great android products. different strokes.. prefering one product over a competitor does not mean you have to hate the other and wish it didn't even exist. this isn't palestine vs israel.. it's fucking phones made by multi-billion dollar conglomerates. competition is good, you should be happy apple is getting off it's ass, it just means samsung, motorola and htc can't afford to get lazy either.

Exactly how I feel. The rabid fans are what annoy me. Both sides definitely have their good qualities. Whenever friends ask me which type of phone they should get, I usually tell them to go to the store, play with both, and see which one they prefer. I'm an Android fan, but sometimes recommend iPhones to people I think it would suit better, like my brother-in-law who is NOT tech-savvy in the least. He just wanted something that would work well and easily. Honestly, though, while Google and Apple are duking it out, seems that Microsoft's WP8 and RIM's new Blackberry system are making some pretty good strides. If I wasn't so entrenched in the Android ecosystem, I'd probably be using a Nokia Lumia by now. However, the Microsoft and BB app stores have a LONG way to go to catch up with Apple and Google. The Android market started out kind of slow though, so maybe there's hope for some increased competition from the other players. I sure hope so. I agree with you...competition is indeed a good thing.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I have an android, fiance has an iPhone and windows (work) phone. iPhone is great if you like the apple ecosystem (I'm completely out of it at this point, so it doesn't make sense for me), while she says the windows phone is baller for business use (can actually edit and update office items in an easy and efficient manner), but lackluster everywhere else.

I DEMAND TO BE CATERED TO IMMEDIATELY! Dude - it's still in its infancy. Give it time. The main problem with 4k is that the bandwidth requirements are HUDGE. Shit, it's only been a couple years that 1080p has become universally available via broadcast/narrowcast (read: not BluRay.)

Yes... in other sectors it's called Beta testing. Your point? What I'm saying is they've dotted the i's and crossed the t's and are now ready to roll it out nationwide in the Fall. It's also undergone quite a few changes since the unveiling last summer.

Apple's sold >2x the number of Roku boxes out there in AppleTVs.
And that means it's better? Apple has also sold a fuckload more phones than Samsung, but that trend is changing.

I was more thinking of how long it took stuff to get into 1080p, and how many things aren't - like I don't think Downhill Racer is available yet on Blu-Ray. The bandwidth thing is kinda secondary to me until there's shit to watch.

my point was the "rollouts" take a looonnnnggg time for them and as such I'm not sure a cable company will ever be the game changer.

Apple is like Colorado is for skiing. Everyone that doesn’t know much about skiing and lives on the East Coast says, “Oh wow, I’m moving to Colorado. They have the most 14ers (iphones) and a ton of resorts (apps). It is the best. I’m never moving anywhere else!” And sure, there is some nice skiing in Colorado, but once you reach a certain level of expertise, it leaves a lot to be desired. Of course, you could try to go outside the well patrolled resort (Apple’s bullshit oppressive ecosystem) into the backcountry , but you have a high probability of getting smoked by an avalanche (bricking your phone). However, some people finally become enlightened (move to an open source based philosophy where any developer can improve the OS, instead of a few pretentious thieving douches), and find out that just because there are more people (fanbois) and shiny chairlifts doesn’t mean it’s awesome. Then they move somewhere a little further west and discover that there are a lot of places that get twice as much snow that’s actually stable for more than three days a year and realize that even though Vail (iOS) was the shit in the 60’s and 70’s (2008), it’s mostly a joke now.

That is about the lamest anecdote I have ever read.

But you are right one one thing.
    Android is for total nerds.
Apple is for people with actual lives, who have more important things to do than figure out how to program their phone.

Just look at this steaming pile of shit:

Is that R2D2 reborn or is that Apple's rendition of one of those great, stand-alone Swedish woodstove/furnaces??

That's some funny shit, there! And very unlame! TheMessenger is obviously a fanboy....probably one of those guys who wait in line for hours while Apple tries to determine how many more douches are going to stand in even more lines for their newest products.

Apple is truly the corporate version of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" mentality. The iPhone 5 is a good example. The iphone5 is a lightweight, cheap-feeling piece of Chinese garbage. It feels flimsy...looks cheap and certainly had NONE of the great design that made apple famous ....and yet the fanboys out there STILL touted it as the best thing since edible undies. And STILL stood in long lines for it. The fucking thing looks cheap and feels cheap but sure doesn't have a cheap price!

I think as far as the Samsung III,the Samsung 4 and the Samsung Note II are concerned, these great androids ABSOLUTELY blow the ip5 away. The have better features and way way better fit and finish. They look and feel like something that is actually WORTH the hundreds that they cost...unlike the ridiculously cheap-looking iPhone 5.

Apple has come out with so many precedent-laying, well designed and great-looking products (the MacBook...the Airbook...the original iPod....even the original Mac compared to the stuffy PC-II) that they should really be ashamed for the cheap-looking, plastic-feeling iPhone 5......but they know that they can collect a bunch of dog turds...freeze dry them, packaage them in a fancy white box, put a $599 price on the box and call them "iTurds" and people will line up round the block for this new dogshit that's actually same as the old dogshit. They know their market and they know their fanboys!!

Yeah nothing at all nerdy about comparing your cell phone usage to skiing.

There's nothing wrong with being a nerd. Wozniak uses Android. Android is marketed towards nerds.

Apple for everybody else. It's been that way since the beginning

A majority of people want their shit to work right out of the box, without having to mess with a bunch of stuff. That is Apple.

People who WANT to mess with a bunch of stuff are nerds. That is Android

That's not to say that some of the nerdy stuff isn't cool. But most of the time, for most people, for example, couldn't give a flying shit that you can spend ten seconds unlocking your phone with your face, when they can unlock their phone in a quarter second with their keypad.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Figures.

I use what works for me. But I have always been vocally critical about apple products, software, choices, etc.
