Just for kicks I googles "Las Lenas Employment" [logical] and got a website titled "The Workers' Gude to Skiing and Riding in South America". There is plenty of info and links there. I think you might suck at the internet.

if you cannot figure out why there is not alot of info on the web about ski-bumming in south america, then you are not qualified to go on such a trip.

(hint: why intentionally put yourself out of work?)

does this mean that skiing sucks until then? (utah peeps are prohibited from answering this question)

    Jobs
As stated before- very difficult, next to impossible to find a decent paying job worth your time. The most popular route is for ski instructors from NA or Europe to go through their own ski school and apply. They will work you 6-7 days per week- you'll be stuck at the base for most of the day- and do this for weeks at a time. It is not a job you want if you want to ski any good terrain.

As said before in another thread, you are better off working in NA, saving cash, then going down for a month or two. That's how everyone I know pulls it off. Nobody works down there- shit, it's hard enough for locals to find decent jobs.

    AVIE DANGER
As for avie danger- yes, just like NA it's real. There is little, if any control work done. You are on you're own. They maintain terrain less than Europe does. Some places do bomb, but it's sporadic, at best- and only meant to protect any base or public areas. Case in point- Las Lenas has rebuilt numerous chairlifts over the years because they have been taken out by avies. And obviously, the aspects switch with Southerly slopes acting lilke Northern slopes here. SE slopes more like NE here; SW slopes more like NW here. Snow pack is more coastal- reacts 'usually' more like a Tahoe, PNW, or Coastal BC. Some of the biggest Dep. Zones I've ever seen were in SA.

    Car?
Don't need one- everyone rides a bus

    Nightlife?
    Bariloche

    Housing?
Got to find it on your own when you arrive- stay at hostels
    start here in Mendoza http://www.damajuanahostel.com.ar
    and for reference- http://www.southamericaski.com

now you should be able to Yahoo or Google the rest

I can only speak on Lenas- don't have any info. on Catedral or Termas.
Season pass is about $350USD; A bed or couch could run you anywhere from $100USD to $160USD per week- just depends on who you hook up with. There's a new hostel in Lenas (can't remember the name, though). Probably find it on one of those websites or the corporate site.

    $1USD = 2.9AR Pesos

Average meal- 12 to 25 pesos

note: all lodging in Lenas is Sat to Sat (unless you stumble across someone who got lucky with a season rental). You are probably better off at finding last minute lodging at the other places- but it really just depends.

Bariloche is an actual city- and will have much more to do during the down times. And likely more options for cheap hostels.

Season pass prices for LL are going to be made public next week. They have been going up by about $300 USD a year. Last season it was $1000 US.

    Flight - $600-1,200
Month Pass: $600-$900 (depending on High and Low season)
Beer: $1-5 (depending on the swankyness of the club )
Food for a week: $1.50- 50.00 (depending on if you can live on nonstop Hotdogs, 6 for 30c)

(should I do it ?? Fuck it ) Skiing the Andes: Priceless

All I can say about working in SA is Thank God for the Internet !!

I had a buddy who work for a resort in Chile and he didn't even get a free pass and he made something like $20 a day, after i made fun of him, he quit.

yea it was probably less than what I originally thought, I just remember it being ridiculously low for a full days work and he didn't even get a free pass to the resort he worked at

Your best job options in SA without visa or papers (negro) as called down there is.

Hostels-Try Bariloche, Esquel, Villa de Angostura, even cooler Ushuaia
where there are a few. If not Las Trancas at Termas has 2-3 go on
    google.

Bariloche- Jsut throw up and throw the dice... this is the best option.
As well if you look around in BA you might be abel to get a job on
as a supervisor on the weekly student trips to Bariloche but need Spanish.

Otherwise Squirrel 99 has it exactly right, work in NA and go down.
Especially in Argnetina you can stay in cheap hostels, take cheap buses
and meet a lot of people. On www.southamericaski.com they have hostels
info for most of the resorts as well so can save your time on google.

    Good luck
