    RP23 problem - yes really

    2008 Yeti 575
RP23 worked fine until close to the end of last year. Pro-pedal no longer holds. I've tried upping the air pressure but the shock is just mush. Just took it back out for the first time of the year (yes, I know) and in addition to the mushiness there is a metalic scraping sound over every little bump.

Planning to send to QBP or Push for a rebuild.

Any other suggestions? Like a better shock for this frame?

Do the $15 air sleeve rebuild before deciding that the internals need work or replacement. It's easy and makes an enormous difference if you've been neglecting it.

Also make sure the DU bushings are in good shape they might be responsible for the scraping noise.

Air sleeve and DU bushings are good, easy maintenance that might take care of the scraping, but if your propedal isn't working, you're pretty much looking at a rebuild.

Also it's a shock from 2008 and what you're probably hearing is the chirp those things get when you either break a damping shim or the damping fluid has been in there long enough and been used enough that it breaks down and gets bubbles.

    Get it rebuilt.

$130 to get it pushed - if you've rideen it for 5 years I think you've gotten a good life out of it.

Is the air sleeve rebuild a DIY thing? Does that just fix problems with air leaking out of the main chamber or can it affect how stiff the propedal is? My propedal was quite stiff when I got my bike, but a season into it, not so much. The shock works well otherwise.

The air seals for the sleeve is pretty painless DIY. Multiple videos on the youtubes

    Fox
    Another version
    MBR

Cost is ~15 now but still pretty cheap and easy.

If you want to keep the shock have it rebuilt by Push, best $160 I spent on my shock, buttery smooth ... since then I've just replaced my seals twice a season

The air sleeve and the damping are two separate things. You should be doing the Air sleeve at least once a year. The only thing it effects is the air spring. The internal oil needs changing this is something 99% of shops cant do so it will have to go to Fox or one of the other shock servicing companies. There may be some other parts that are damaged in there from the sounds of it. Most are pretty quick at getting things turned around these days.

Here is a link to send it Fox.
Your LBS can send it off as well if your into that sort of thing.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

so the propedal no longer works on my RP23 & the thing is a wallow-y mess. I changed the air seals & its still fkd. Inside all looked ok to my inexperienced eyes, seals looked to be in good shape at least.
Its only 12 months old.... 2012 XV, on a RM Slayer. Before I chat to the shop tomorrow I'm curious if anyone knows what warranty there might be on it (?). If no warranty & I have to pay, am I better getting a push service or Fox?
I'm in Canada if that makes any difference.

so I was told if the oil & gas were mixed in the inner cartridge then the shock would feel like a pogo stick, which it doesn't. Still blowing through travel on pretty mellow single track though so I may just get it rebuilt anyways.

Huh, timely thread. My propedal doesn't appear to be working.

Since I live in Boulder, was thinking of going to Dirt Labs instead of sending off to PUSH. Thoughts?
