    K2 Sahale Mount point question

    Hey guys,

I realize that there may be few who have any thoughts on this, but I'd appreciate any feedback that you may have.

I have of K2 Sahales that I use mainly for spring tours that I got from a buddy who skied them quite a bit. A few months ago, I pulled a pair of dynafits off and put BF inserts so I could swap those bindings between two pairs of skis. My original boots had a BSL of around 328, and I was able to use the holes in the original mount for my Factors (big boot, small ski). I put the inserts in, and then decided to buy a new pair of boots.

As I'm looking at it now, the new boots have a smaller BSL and the boot center mark ends up approx +1cm forward of the ski center mark. I had considered reusing two of the holes on the toe and just moving the toe piece back, but that puts my boot center at approx -1.5cm. The sahales are a 174, and I'm 6' 190lbs.

Would you remount the toe (all 4 or 5 holes) for ski center, go +1, or -1.5?

    Thanks,

    Seth

Why not ski them at +1 without drilling any holes (as long as you have enough travel at the heel) and see how you like them?

Ski them at +1 for a while. You can always adjust later.

PS: Those skis are probably too short for a guy your size.

Yeah, try 'em at +1. I'd bet +1 is better than -1.5 for those skis.

174 K2 Shuksan (equiv. 177 non-K2) is not necessarily too short for a spring/summer corn touring ski for 190 lb. guy. One can go pretty damn short for post-consolidation spring/summer if one skis like a geezer (me).

Ah, I didn't explain well enough. The heels won't reach the boots with the shorter BSL. To ski them, I need to remount something.

Another option is that Marshal has a pair of demo heel tracks that should do the trick, but I'd have to spend some money. I'd need to put in another pair of inserts any way that I see it.

As for the length of the skis, I generally agree. I ski 190 Wailers and 190 Katanas, but I have been very impressed with this ski, believe it or not. It's a mountaineering ski, seems to be plenty stiff for what I use it for, and is light. Lots of fun in the spring and I don't care if I hit crap with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I just picked up a pair of the demo heels from Marshal. That should allow me to ski them where they are with just the addition of two inserts per ski (I was going to have to do this anyway).

FWIW, I have a pair of 167 Shuksans mounted +1 (my daily driver is a 185 Cochise) and these ski great on spring snow.
