I found pretty good pow today. Road is still closed and I got a late start but above 6-7,000’ snow was excellent. Friends skied Giddy down Cascade Gulch and their tracks looked sweet and they were very stoked. I’m not sure what’s up with county road crew but hoping soon. Although I do like the tour from McBride, it keeps the riff raff out

Shasta is looking pretty good with an above average snowpack so far this season

If a guy wanted to take a week with the goal of skiing Shasta with his buds coming from all over the country who need to plan ahead - what would be the best week to plan for to ski off the top of Shasta?

Any time it's stable and there's access. If you wait too long it will be melted out down low and suncupped.

Late April, give or take, is probably ideal, but very much dependent on conditions. Getting later into spring can be good, too, but once things warm up, you want to start early and get your slog up and down the top 1000' done with as quickly as possible before the slopes get sloppy soft.

Seems like the forum is maybe working again...

Anyone been up to the volcanoes recently? Was thinking of going up this weekend but the weather looks iffy, so may wait another week.

Shasta was good on Tuesday. Almost a foot of new snow at 10K.

I was skiing shasta for a few days last week. Coverage was good, snow was quite smooth below 12k. Snow above 12k has lots of rime and blue ice balls mixed into it, much more so than last year. This recent storm may improve surface conditions on the upper mountain

Skied Lassen on the 15th from Devasted Area TH, great conditions, decent snowpack all the way down to TH. Shasta was great on Friday, good corn below 11,000. Over the weekend it was pretty damn windy.

Lassen from the SW - last road clearing update from 5/8 plowing from Sulphur to Bumpass. Anyone been up that way and know progress? Web says open to pedestrians...assume you can also bike that section?Yes can do from Devastated but taking my son up and looking for a little less vert....after the biking.

I’ve never heard of Lassen NP having a problem with people biking on a closed but plowed road (unlike Yosemite, where they’ll ticket cyclists unless they’ve specifically opened the road to bikes).

Yeah I think that's the official policy at Lassen, per the website:

"Visitors can hike or bike any cleared section of the road before it opens to vehicles."

You can kind of make out the road on the latest Sentinel satellite photos, at least to bumpass. Hard to see if it's cleared beyond that though.
