Northeast Mags: Help needed mounting Sollyfit plates

Although I'm fairly handy, I just don't trust myself enough to mount sollyfit plates on my skis. Any recommendations as to shops that do a good job mounting? Anyone do it themselves before and wanna hook me up. Let me know. Thanks!

Njfree. I did it to a pair of dps pures. Get a 2 x 4 for a couple practice runs, triple check your measurements, use a paper template. There is no way I'm better at this than you.

    List of supplies:
    Digital caliper
    Pen
    template/sollyfits/Allen wrench/screws
    Posi drive three
    Drill w/ 3.5 x 9.5 bit. (4.1 x 9.5 if metal)
    Quick clamps
    Masking tape
3 8.5"x1" strips of notebook paper.
    Center punch
    Hammer
    Sharp awl
    Wood glue/amazing goop
    Vibra tite
    Yardstick/long ruler
    Centering ruler

Dry run one side of the 2 x 4. Dry mount the bindings and clamp your boots in. Repeat on the other side. Then repeat on your skis. Don't let the topsheet fool you - they aren't always symmetric. I doubt you'll have a shop do a mount ever again.

Pm me with questions. Hope all is well.

^^^What he said. It is super easy if you practice. I've done three sets after the 2X4 run through.

Any competent shop can do it, it is not rocket science, but they may charge you more since they may call it a hand or specialty mount since they don't have a jig.

Where do you live? I am sure somebody here knows a shop in your area that can do it, or somebody local to you may do it for beers. Drive to Ventura, and all do it, but. No guarantees if done after said beers are consumed.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I'm with the above posters. Plates were my first ski mount. I just mounted on 2x4 until I was comfortable then did it. No problems.

This. Many shops won't mount them anyway.

See Eric at Fire on the Mountain in Dover NH. Small shop with a lot of quality and knowledge of alpine touring. Bring an 18 pack of PBR and tell them I sent ya. He has done two pair of my dps pure with dynalooks and done an excellent job.

Sounds like you have some good options already, but if you're around the Boston area I'd be happy to help out too. I've only done two plate mounts. But they both came out fine. It's relatively easy if you have the right tools and take your time.
