This guy's driving sucks so bad. Overcorrecting half the time. Doesn't even seem to know how to set up a good line through a set of curves.
Color me not impressed.
I see now he's attempting to "drift". Rode the guy's ass before I looked at the title. Meh.
Still sucks. My friend Don Schroeder, the Senior Technical Editor for Car and Driver magazine (died testing some sort of special high performance Mercedes on a Texas track in 2000...most investigators deem the crash due to a defective transmission part and not inattentive driving...car flipped multiple times mid air at a high rate of speed while downshifting prior to a corner...was a burning wreck before track EMTs arrived. Dead on scene ) was a much better driver (and drifter). Ask Csaba Csere.
Maybe a personal thing...but I've never seen the allure of drifting. Seems counterproductive to getting a nice sweet line.Last edited by Alaskan Rover; 12-15-2017 at 12:12 AM.

An ode to a driver's driver and motorhead extrordinaire .Don Schroeder...the guy I'd mentioned above and one of my best friends in life. It explains Don's approach to driving and explains the crash which ended his life. It was written by his boss at Car and Driver, Csaba Csere...a guy who is no stranger to driving.
I think some of you driving buffs will find it an interesting read. For my part, all I wish is that me and my friend Don could trade turns and straights bumper to bumper once again as we had so many times before. Not to mention all the other crazy car shit we used to do.
RIP Herr Schroeder, been almost 18 years and I still miss you.

And sorry for dissing the guy above drifting that Porsche.

I liked his lines better in that AM Vantage around Nuremburg. Could never seem to catch that sleeper of a modded GTI, though. But he has a sweet channel.
As stated in the post above, I noted my distaste with the original video BEFORE I saw the title alluding to his attempt at drifting. When I make an explanatory edit of a post, I do not, as a norm, delete the original wording, as I think that is disingenously in bad form. Also...the original wording may have been somewhat modulated by my distaste of drifting.
The guy is lucky indeed to be living in Germany where driving is taken so seriously and that he can avail himself, with enviable regularity, with a road course like Nuremburg. Lucky indeed!
As for my own skills, once I have adequately acquainted myself with a vehicle's suspension and shifting idiosyncrasies, I can hold my own quite well. And I love taking a well-adjusted car through some nice tight lines....something I don't get a chance to do nearly enough anymore.
Lots of dirt and asphalt ovals around. But very few road courses.
I should hang with my brother more often...he's road racing nearly every weekend...usually a vintage Lola and what have you...but also his GT3s and I think he races his Ford GT - would LOVE to get behind the wheel of that. The vintage Lola, however, would scare the crap out of me, no doubt.

If we are posting nurburgring videos, this guy does reasonably well in his 944 turbo. Think I'll go take mine for a spin at lunch.

So does this. It's the sweet black vintage McLaren M8 that's in the beginning. Check out that speedo. I think that thing has somewhere around 1000 hp. Tight moves.
Awesome sound.
I think he was good for 189 mph towards the end. Damn slowbees kept getting in rhe way, though.
The M8 did pretty damn well back in the heyday until it was knocked off its pedestal by the even more awesome 917.

My neighbor has a mid-2000s Quattroporte. It's a piece of shit and he seems alright with that, making no effort to fix broken parts. But, man, every time it gets fired up I'm like, damn, that's a great sound.
