I'll reread htis in the morning with a coffee in my hand and not a beer = clarity ... maybe
We, the RATBAGGERS, formally axcept our duty is to trigger avalaches on all skiers ...
I think my educated guess on interference from stuff a couple days ago was "a foot or two" of distance and you'd be fine. Nice to know there's at least some possibility I know what I'm talking about...
That's great and all but a bunch of glorified ski bums ain't ever going to put togetherElectronics interference is difficult.Clearly, more study is needed to be able to provide full conclusive data regarding different brands and products that represent the most risk for users.
what the fuck does that have to do with RF interference from boards and other shit? all those years as an "optical engineer" and you haven't picked up that RF stuff is weird and those guys make good money? eesh, just saying waving some things in front of each other isn't really "complete" particularly with the rather wide band of acceptable devices. look at the problems other, much larger, device mfgs have.
wasn't a shot at you, it was a comment on the dirt bag skiers who do not seem to understand even that basic concept.
totally agree their work was incomplete. and i totally agree that RF stuff can be complete voodoo (antenna design comes to mind).
We heard you in our twilight caves, one hundred fathom deep below, for notes of joy can pierce the waves, that drown each sound of war and woe.
Ah. Sorry for the spleen then![]()
Reread the article and quickly deleted my post. thanks for preserving my reading comprehension skillz or lack there of
why anyone needs to carry anything more than a turned off phone and a beeping beacon in the bc is beyond me.

link didn't work. been drinking and had to say something that i feel strongly about, you dig?
great electronics story: was out skiing with our very own jonathan s. and another buddy. we are leaving our skiing destination to get back to the car. the viz is pretty bad and jonathan had his gps out and told us we'd find it cuz he was following coordinates or some shit. well, we were clearly going the wrong way and i told him that and he says, "no, the gps says it's that way". i said, " jonathan, see that thing flashing through the fog? it's your windshield"
fucking priceless.

I did a modest amount of experimentation a few years ago and found that at close range, something completely passive (a small plate of sheet steel) had pretty much the same affect on a Pieps DSP as any of the active devices I tried out.
I try to keep hunks of metal away from my beacon, whether they are radiating or not.
a homing device that is priceless still can't be purchased here brit.
