    Am I missing something?

I don't get this thing with people riding big ass skis in the east. Am I just old school?
Today I'm in a certain shop (great store) on the access road at Killington, getting my boots worked on. That was my goal this weekend, to get my new Full Tilts to at least 85%. It was harder than I thought. One thing I learned, though, shops love people to come in for fittings and work, because they have you captive for a little browsing and shopping in the down time of heating and such. (Hello new helmet)
So I'm watching all the bubbly excitement around the new ski rack, especially one ski, the Hell Dorado. I'm pretty sure the dudes who gushed over their demo, and another dude pair were not gapers. I couldn't help myself, and had to ask, after non gapers were off to consume alcohol, wtf is up with these things here? I mean, if I wanted to ski knee deep switch, I could maybe see it, but, I don't and we rarely have open areas of knee deep in Vermont. Actually, there's maybe three stashes in the state like that. Oh, I was told, no no no, this is your one ski quiver. It's the best GS ski out there. But, but, I say, why would I want a tail like that on ice? Blah blah sidecut blah rocker blah blah camber blah, he says. I know, I know, he's just doing his job, but, why the fuck do I see these things in lift lines every time it snows four inches? Christ, on top of it all, they cost a shit ton too. Is it just fashion, and this too will pass?

    End of blog

btw, they had a new ski I've never seen. Logiks. Very pretty. Love to take one of the three shapes for a spin.

I think I'm missing the same thing you are. Then again, if it works for them, good for them.

I have skied knee deep snow every run after work for about 3 weeks in a row now.

I live in vermont, and have done them on 186cm Sickles... a ski I keep as far away from icey bumps as i can.

The other thing is that in the woods, you want max flotation so you don't nail stuff, so big skis are quite useful.

Saw a guy at Jay early season with no new snow, lapping groomers on Hell Bents. Wishful thinking or just really really bored? If I was that bored I would probably resort to drinking instead of skiing, but thats just my 2cents.

I still haven't figured out why people ski on the east coast. Is ice just a fad that will pass? I mean, I don't get out of bed if the snow report doesn't say 6" or more.

I actually think 186 Sickles are pretty good in icey bumps... but it's not the ski I would choose if I knew that's what I was going to be skiing.

When its hardpack, yeah leave the fat sticks at home.

But umm maybe you should quit skiing at Killington and you'd understand fat skis. Going over shit in the woods instead of under, only needing 6" to make my L138s feel amazing, skiing where there is pow in the east, etc are all reasons to own fat skis in the East.

Hard snow = look harder for soft snow.

No soft snow = leave the big sticks home and tip and turn all day long.

Soft snow = grab the big sticks and McConkey turn til you can't no more.

You are skiing rebranded flexon boots, so I guess old school with a twist. Although I have never skied the skis mentioned, I don't feel their dimensions are crazy for the ec. I have skis with a 116 waist that rail soft groomers. Slight tip/tail rocker with camber. Works great for any soft snow, and when it gets cut-up/chunky during or after a storm, the ski is great. Can hold an edge and still float. If I still lived out west, it would be my everyday ski, here it's part of a quiver.

I have tree skis. I was on them yesterday. They're 160 Phantoms. Plenty of float. And, small enough for the superb tight trees at the Killington you think is just icy groomers. I would love to try the 160 Icelantic Shamans. Those aren't giant western open bowl monsters. Trust me, I don't see anybody in the trees on those things.

its more my banged up edges, and marker dukes that make it rally not fun. I almost want another pair mounted with Alpine binder just for lift served skiing. I really like the ski

I also have Salomon Rocker 2 92, and Blizzard "the one" both of which are much better in bumps and bumped out trees.

the Sickles are partly because I like how they ski, and partly because they are safety measure for what is a deep but unconsolidated snow pack in the stowe area right now. I skied a run in our BC on my 92mm salomons and caught a freaking tree I am sure I wouldnt have caught on my sickles.

Just saying benny sorry for the shitty pictures but we have truly been skiing knee deep snow in the stowe/smuggs area everyday. there are simply not enough people in the know to ski it.

Ha ha! "This too will pass?" Ba ha ha! Benny gotta love ya man. Fat skis are fun to ride, if they have a deep side cut they still hold an edge. If you're poor you're going to buy a one ski quiver. I'd be skiing a fat one. Not Hellbent fat but maybe something 105 underfoot...?

The main reason I don't go to Killington... it's filled with Jersey and NY retards like Benny. Not saying all people from Jersey and NY are retards, but the ones at K-mart certainly are.

Because skiing something not conducive to the terrain at hand never makes you a better skier, right? Yesterday I saw a guy ski down a steep icy couloir on Hellbents. Yeah, that's silly for most but why not add an extra challenge and find something new in your abilities as a skier?

Oh, no argument, if you are a bored and highly skilled 100 day rider. I once watched a dude in hard boots and a carving board rip an Alta chute at Jackson with grace. Film of Glen Plake zipperlining bumps in DH race skis is still one of the most stunning things I have seen. But, for the rest of us, the 99%, it's a little silly.

This is kind of a stupid argument- it doesn't matter if YOU live in VT and if YOU ski waist-deep pow every day. If that's the case, then friggin' good for you, that's awesome, give yourself a hug and get a fat ski because you need it and use it. But for the majority of east coast gapers skiing at places like Killington, Mt Snow, etc- the kind who come up from Jersey on weekends in their Land Rovers and who'd be shopping at a store like that MOST of the time- fat skis are really not necessary. I see so many people schussing it up on the WROD making skidded turns because they a) don't know how to ski and b) can't get their fat reverse camber pow boards on edge. But stores keep selling and people keep buying.

Hahaha... More true than anyone who skis there regularly would probably like to admit. K is a shitshow of wannabe badasses with shit attitudes more often than not. Also, when you're a truly self-important knobjob, no matter what anyone is looking at in the store if it isn't what you're skiing on that day they're a fucking idiot.

That said, I do like K midweek. Nice hill and they get great snow, the Joey/Vinny/Mikey/Tommy tsunami just decimates the snow every weekend imo and I am a ski-induced agoraphobic. I fucking hate standing in line.

Also, EpicSki called and they want their bread and butter hot topic back.

I'll admit it anyday. Love hate relationship with the place, but, I know it intimately, and, yes, it has some of the best snow in the region south of Stowe, which is a non starter anyway, considering the drive. 4.5 hour drive is my max. Also has a well maintained and dependable lift and snowmaking system, much unlike the maggot darling Magic to the south. That must be worth the four hour drive, right?

And, you guys read Epic? Really?
